The I4.0 Technical Excellence Lead will drive consistency, innovation, and maturity across RTX’s technical, digital, and operational excellence initiatives. This role partners closely with internal Centers of Excellence, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, RTX Ventures, and the Digital Technology organization to advance automation, digital thread enablement, and connected factory capabilities. The Technical Excellence Lead will serve as an integrator across multiple enterprise councils, enabling harmonized processes and driving measurable improvements in productivity, quality, and manufacturability.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as an RTX Ventures technical partner, providing insight into emerging technologies, producibility, and factory-centric application opportunities.

  • Support trade studies by analyzing technical options, assessing risks, and presenting recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Lead development, tracking, and reporting of Connected Factory metrics, including automation KPIs, Control Tower insights, and digital performance dashboards.

  • Support factory automation initiatives, including evaluation of automation opportunities, technology readiness, and deployment coordination with site teams.

  • Lead the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) Council and support the Quality Management System (QMS) Council, focusing on cross-BU QMS harmonization and integration into standard operating processes.

  • Act as a strategic partner for Producibility initiatives, ensuring manufacturability considerations are integrated into design, development, and scaling processes.

  • Provide MBDMI (Model-Based Definition / Model-Based Inspection) support to mature digital product lifecycle capabilities.

  • Collaborate across functional and site teams to drive best practice sharing, digital maturity acceleration, and continuous improvement in technical excellence.

  • Ensure alignment between enterprise initiatives, business unit strategies, and site-level deployment activities.

  • This position will require travel to various manufacturing sites.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a University Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Digital Technology, or related field and 10 years minimum of prior relevant experience; OR an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong background in manufacturing, digital technologies, automation, or technical program leadership.

  • Proven track record of leading large-scale projects and managing cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts, factory automation, or digital thread technologies.

Qualifications We Prefer: 

  • Excellent technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute methodically.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Ability to interpret complex technical data and translate it into actionable insights.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing analytics, automation systems, or shop-floor data architectures.

  • Experience with QMS frameworks, enterprise governance councils and process harmonization activities.

  • Technical understanding of manufacturing systems architecture (i.e. MES, IIOT).

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
