POSITION SUMMARY - IMMEDIATE NEED

The Lead Field Service Engineer – Power Systems, under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks and ensures proper installation, service, and commissioning of products and services. This role provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects and delivers maintenance, breakdown emergency support, and remote troubleshooting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties reflect the employees’ current contributions and expectations in their role:
  • Performs installation and commissioning activities at customer site locations during ship construction. Must be capable of working unsupervised and leading small teams.
  • Performs troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
  • Performs a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of General Electric Power Conversion power systems and associated control systems.
  • Develops presentations and provides training and instruction to customers on system operations.
  • Promotes sales of services, parts, and Conversions, Modifications, and Upgrades (CM&Us).
  • Performs other related engineering tasks to facilitate proper commissioning and customer satisfaction.
  • Provides on-call support in response to customer calls for service.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years of field service and/or commissioning experience.
  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 85% of the time on short notice.
  • Must be physically fit to be able to board vessels offshore.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 3 additional years of related field service experience in a field service/commissioning environment with power systems and associated control systems).
  • Switchgear – Medium Voltage and Low Voltage.
  • Circuit Breakers – MCCBs, ACBs, VCBs.
  • Sensing Instruments – PTs, CTs, Transducers.
  • Transformers – Phase shifting transformers for VFD applications.
  • Motor Control Centers (MCCs) – Basic starters with Start/Stop, Multi-Speed Starters, Wye-Delta Starters, Hand/Off/Auto control, Local/Remote control.
  • Soft Starters / Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Transfer Switches – Manual and Automatic.
  • Protection Relays – Generator, Transformer, Feeder, Motor, and Bus.
  • Enhanced generator protection schemes.
  • Power quality meters.
  • Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) – Generator excitation control for synchronizing and load sharing.
  • Governors – Engine speed control for synchronizing and load sharing.
  • Synchronizers / Sync Check Relays.
  • Load sharing systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers and project teams, provide technical explanations, and de-escalate tense situations in high-pressure service environments.
  • Ability to execute increasingly complex assignments requiring strong engineering skills, creativity, and independent judgment.
