Remote Supabase information

What are some common challenges faced by remote Supabase developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Supabase developers often face challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams, managing asynchronous communication, and ensuring secure cloud-based data integration. To address these, it's helpful to use clear project management tools, participate actively in virtual stand-up meetings, and document changes thoroughly. Additionally, staying updated on Supabase platform updates and best practices helps streamline collaboration and maintain high-quality code across remote teams.

What is a Remote Supabase Developer?

A Remote Supabase Developer is a software professional who works from a remote location to build, maintain, and optimize applications using Supabase, an open-source backend-as-a-service platform. Their responsibilities typically include setting up databases, managing authentication, implementing APIs, and integrating real-time functionality for web and mobile applications. They collaborate with teams or clients virtually, leveraging Supabase tools to accelerate development and ensure scalable, secure backend solutions. This role requires strong knowledge of SQL, JavaScript or TypeScript, and experience with cloud platforms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Supabase Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Supabase Developer, you need strong skills in JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, and backend development, often backed by experience with Supabase or similar serverless platforms. Familiarity with Supabase tools like Authentication, Realtime, and Postgres, as well as version control systems like Git, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial for effective collaboration in a remote setting. Job description

About Virtasant
Virtasant is a global technology services company with a network of over 4,000 technology professionals across 130+ countries. We specialize in cloud architecture, infrastructure, migration, and optimization, helping enterprises scale efficiently while maintaining cost control.
Our clients range from Fortune 500 companies to fast-growing startups, relying on us to build high-performance infrastructure, optimize cloud environments, and enable continuous delivery at scale.
About the role
Using a combination of IoT tracking devices and bleeding-edge software solutions, our client transforms with ease outdated processes into lean digital workflows, allowing their customers to interact digitally with their physical equipment, while at the same time, they collect data, derive insights, and improve the efficiency of their operations. Their backend ingests telemetry from physical devices, and ties together the integrations that make it all work.
For our client, we're looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer with at least 5 years of relevant experience in software development to own significant projects end-to-end, from scoping through production.
You will play a critical role in building the technical foundation and implementing cutting-edge software technologies that transform existing processes into digital workflows. You will be responsible for designing and building cloud-based applications to improve businesses' ability to schedule, maintain, and deploy complex equipment configurations. You will help distill technical ideas into an action engineering roadmap. You will act as a mentor and coach for your team. You must have deep experience with microservice architectures, building highly performant and well-tested code. Your expertise will help our client create an intuitive application where customers can digitally interact with their physical equipment while collecting data, deriving insights, and improving the efficiency of operations.
What You'll Do
  • Design and build backend services and APIs in Node/TypeScript, Supabase, and Deno.
  • Work across PostgreSQL and our client's device telemetry data, plus the pipelines that move data between systems.
  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party services and our client's connected devices.
  • Own projects from scoping to launch: define milestones, keep work visible, and ship reliably.
  • Instrument what you build and design for failure, so problems are caught early.
What We're Looking For
  • At least 5+ years building and operating backend services in production.
  • Strong, current Node/TypeScript skills.
  • Strong data modeling and SQL with Postgres.
  • Experience designing and running microservices on AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD: building, maintaining, and trusting automated build, test,
  • and deploy pipelines.
  • Experience operating your own services in production: monitoring, alerting, and observability tooling, and an instinct for designing things to be observable and to fail safely.
  • Comfort shipping behind feature flags and rolling changes out incrementally.
  • A security-conscious approach to code and dependencies.
  • Hands-on experience working with AI coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) as part of your daily workflow.
  • A track record of owning projects independently and working through hard problems with little direction.
  • Clear communication and a habit of surfacing issues early.

Nice to haves
  • Experience with telemetry, IoT, or device-connected systems.
  • Familiarity with our stack: Supabase, Deno, Modal, DBOS, GitHub, CircleCI, Datadog, LaunchDarkly, Snyk, and Auth0.

Our recruitment process
  • Recruiter interview (30 min)
  • Technical Interview (30 min)
  • Client - Two Technical Interviews (one with the VP of Engineering and one with one of our client's leads): 1hr each
  • Client - Two Collaboration interviews (with design and product): 45 mins each

We strive to move efficiently from step to step to make the recruitment process as fast as possible.
What we offer
  • Totally remote, full-time (40h/week)
  • Work hours - 8 hours, between Pacific and East Coast office hours (up to you, within this time frame)
  • Long-term, no-end-date Independent contractor agreement
  • Payment in USD, biweekly or monthly - your choice
