Job Summary:
Sterling is seeking a Project Engineer to join a growing electric distribution team supporting overhead and underground utility projects. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong technical design experience who is interested in expanding into project management. The position offers the opportunity to support technical execution, mentor junior team members, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and develop leadership skills while working on a variety of electric distribution projects.

Job Duties:
  • Support and coordinate electric distribution design projects, including overhead and underground systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical design work.
  • Lead quality control reviews of design packages before and after construction.
  • Prepare and review technical analyses, engineering documents, and project deliverables.
  • Review vendor drawings and participate in design reviews.
  • Assist with permitting, utility coordination, and construction support.
  • Partner with Project Managers to support project scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Participate in client meetings and technical coordination discussions.
  • Communicate project risks, constraints, and schedule impacts to stakeholders.
  • Support proposal development, project forecasting, and workload planning.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements and team growth.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. Civil or Structural Engineering degrees may be considered with relevant electric distribution experience.
  • Experience supporting overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems.
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to perform engineering calculations.
  • Experience working in consulting, utility, or infrastructure environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, clients, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • EIT certification or pursuit of PE licensure is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Schedule: Primarily remote with occasional travel to client meetings.
