What is remote strategic management?

Remote strategic management is the process of planning, implementing, and overseeing an organization's long-term goals and initiatives while working remotely. Professionals in this field use digital tools and communication platforms to collaborate with team members, analyze market trends, make strategic decisions, and monitor progress from any location. This approach enables companies to maintain flexibility, access a broader talent pool, and adapt quickly to changing business environments.

How do remote strategic management professionals collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive organizational goals?

Remote strategic management professionals often utilize a variety of digital collaboration tools, such as video conferencing, project management platforms, and shared documents, to work closely with cross-functional teams. Regular virtual meetings and clear communication protocols are key to ensuring alignment on organizational objectives and timely progress updates. Building strong relationships remotely can be challenging, but successful managers prioritize transparency, foster open dialogue, and create opportunities for team input. This collaborative approach helps drive strategy execution and fosters a cohesive team environment, even across different locations and time zones.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote strategic management professional?

To thrive in Remote Strategic Management, you need a solid background in business strategy, analysis, and leadership, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in management roles. Familiarity with project management tools (like Asana or Trello), data analysis software, and virtual collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong communication, decision-making, and adaptability are vital soft skills for coordinating teams and driving results across remote environments. These skills and qualities enable effective strategic planning, execution, and team alignment, which are critical for organizational success in a distributed setting.

Meet the Team

The Product Strategy, Planning and Operation organization at Splunk plays a pivotal role in crafting how Cisco and Splunk deliver outstanding value to our customers. Within this organization, the Executive Strategy and Program Management team translates Splunk executive leadership's priorities into structured, strategic programs driving cross-functional accountability, removing roadblocks, and equipping leaders with the insights for accelerated decisions -across internal and partner ecosystem initiatives. We are a hands-on, high-trust team that moves comfortably between strategy and execution. This is an opportunity to shape high-visibility work at the center of how Cisco and Splunk integrate and grow together

Your Impact

Cisco is seeking a Strategic Program Manager who turns executive direction into a focused portfolio of strategic programs and carry the work from framing through delivery. You will win in this role by pairing structured problem solving with executive presence, crisp communication, sound judgment, and a bias for action!

  • Lead special growth initiatives and translate executive priorities into cross-functional programs with clear scopes, roadmaps, decision rights, milestones, and KPIs so teams can execute with focus.
  • Lead the cross-functional programs end-to-end. Surface strategic tradeoffs and dependencies early, and shape recommendations for Executive Leadership. Hold workstream leaders accountable to outcomes, not just milestones - ensuring integration delivers the business value it was designed to capture.
  • Design and run the governance model that gives leadership the insight to make faster, better-informed calls.
  • Grow strategic external partnerships through a product-strategy lens to extend product reach and customer value.
  • Shape the post-integration governance for Splunk-related acquisitions, partnering closely with Cisco Corporate Development & Integration, Finance, Product, and acquired entities to define priorities, sequencing, and success measures.
  • Provide business requirements and support technical teams in developing AI-led workflows to drive operational efficiencies
  • Build narratives, roadmaps, and decision frameworks that drive Splunk's leadership alignment and action.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MBA with minimum 6 years of relevant experience, OR 8+ years of total experience in similar program/operations leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience shaping strategy and driving execution on cross-functional programs involving senior partners.
  • Strong track record of building governance frameworks, decision models, and executive-level narratives from ambiguity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing materials for Executive or Senior Leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage sophisticated, matrixed initiatives independently with minimal oversight.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in an internal strategy, management consulting, or Business Operations/ Chief of Staff role at a SaaS or enterprise tech company
  • Familiarity with the SaaS industry, enterprise software, or technology partnerships and ecosystems
  • Exposure to product strategy, GTM strategy, or customer success motions
  • Strong program management skills.
  • Strong financial and quantitative analysis skills (market sizing, reason modeling, benchmark development)
  • Intellectual curiosity, structured problem-solving, and a bias toward action
  • Prior experience in Corporate Development, M&A, or Integration Management Office (IMO) roles is a plus
