Job description

Who we are
With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system - reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.
What We Need
Symbotic is seeking a Manager, Structural Design to lead our 2D CAD (AutoCAD) team within the Systems Layout and Structural Engineering organization. This role is responsible for overseeing the creation, quality, and release of 2D design documentation supporting complex steel structural systems for large-scale warehouse automation solutions.
This opportunity will expose you to a wide variety of sales and engineering teams within our organization as well as customer's architects, structural engineers, construction experts and leading-edge technologies in the automation and robotics industries.
What we do
The System Layout Engineering team is part of the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Organization, which is responsible for developing the customer's warehouse layout, facilitating supply chain execution, and delivering world-class support to the installation team. The System Layout Engineering team drives warehouse design excellence through the incorporation of internal and external customer feedback with a consistent focus on reducing costs for both material and project execution lead times.
What you'll do
  • Lead and develop a team of 2D CAD designers responsible for delivering high-quality structural design documentation and BOM releases across multiple projects.

  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of 2D drawing packages, including system layouts, subassembly drawings, and installation documentation.

  • Ensure consistent application of AutoCAD best practices, including use of external references, layer standards, dynamic blocks, drawing libraries, and file management protocols.

  • Govern the creation and release of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and oversee Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes to ensure accuracy and timely updates.

  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement across 2D CAD workflows to increase efficiency, scalability, and design quality.

  • Introduce and expand use of automation tools such as AutoLISP and data extraction techniques to streamline design processes.

  • Implement and leverage project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet) to support resource planning, workload balancing, and project tracking.

  • Ensure adherence to design review processes and stage-gate milestones, maintaining high standards for quality and completeness.

  • Partner closely with 3D (Revit) teams and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment across design outputs and resolve design conflicts.

  • Support new product introductions (NPI) by integrating new system components into standard design frameworks.

  • Establish and enforce QA/QC standards for all AutoCAD deliverables, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, attention to detail, and continuous improvement.

  • Utilize data-driven decision-making to prioritize work, mitigate risks, and manage competing project demands.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (preferred) or Architecture.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural design, construction, material handling, or large-scale mechanical systems.

  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience with AutoCAD (2D).

  • Proven leadership experience managing design or engineering teams in a project-based environment.

  • Deep expertise in AutoCAD (2D), including advanced drawing management, standards, and best practices.

  • Strong understanding of structural steel systems and construction documentation.

  • Experience delivering design outputs for large-scale, complex systems (e.g., automation, industrial, or construction environments).

  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements, standardization, and scalable workflows.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD automation tools (e.g., AutoLISP, data extraction).

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to work across engineering, product, and field teams.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

  • Experience in warehouse automation or material handling systems (preferred).

Our Environment
  • Up to 25% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
