Job description

This internship opportunity is only available to graduate students currently enrolled at select APA Internal Internship Program academic partner institutions: Howard University, Montclair State University, or University of Virginia. Applications from students outside of these academic institutions will not be considered.

About the Office & Position:

Workforce Studies

The internship will support research about psychologyโ€™s workforce and educational pathways, such as employment characteristics and educational backgrounds. The intern will assist with ongoing workforce research projects. The intern will also contribute to resources on the variety of career pathways in psychology.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Testing survey instruments
  • Assisting with secondary analysis of survey data
  • Assisting with the creating data visualizations
  • Writing summaries of research findings
  • Providing feedback on research projects
  • Interns will generally be expected to work for a minimum of 10 hours (including approximately 1 hour of Internal Internship Programming) per week. Specific hour-to-academic credit ratios will be agreed upon between the internโ€™s university and the APA hiring team.

Expected Learning Objectives & Professional Advancement Opportunities:

  • Develop research skills, such as a better understanding of the research process from start to finish.
  • Increased awareness of research findings and career resources on a variety of career pathways in psychology.
  • Improve communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills by working with the research team to refine ongoing projects and reports."

Required Qualifications:

  • A student currently enrolled in a graduate program of study, with an interest in psychology, a social science field, or research methods.
  • Interests in survey administration, statistical analysis, data visualizations, and computer/statistical programming are pluses.
  • We are currently only accepting applications only for interns who are (1) in graduate school [Masterโ€™s or PhD], (2) able to receive academic credit from their school for their internship; (3) able to commit to a full year [September 2026-May 2027]; and (4) living/working in an APA-approved state (Internships at APA).
  • Enrollment at an APA Internal Internship Program academic partner institution (Howard University, Montclair State University, or University of Virginia) is required.ย
