Work Flexibility: Remote

TheAssociate Legal Counsel, Sport Medicine,is primarily responsible for proactively handling a broad range of legal and compliance matters associated with the Sports Medicine Business Unit, within the Endoscopy Division, including working closely with business unit leadership, functional partners, and outside counsel on a variety of critical matters for the division.

This position offers remote work flexibility within the United States.

What you will do:

  • Serve as a strategic business partner and advisor to the Sports Medicine Business Unit.

  • Effectively communicate with leadership at all levels of the organization, bringing in feedback and gaining alignment from a wide range of functions

  • Provide timely analysis and counsel on a diverse range of legal issues

  • Independently draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a variety of agreements (e.g., sales, services, supply, distribution, consulting, clinical study, non-disclosure, employment, and other commercial arrangements)

  • Analyze and provide clear and concise guidance on laws, rules, regulations, and Stryker policies as necessary, including with respect to the company's interactions with healthcare professionals

  • Collaborate with lawyers and other professionals from Stryker's Centers of Expertise to manage a variety of significant matters (e.g., strategic contracting, data privacy and security, intellectual property, litigation, employment, and regulatory matters)

  • Provide pragmatic and business-relevant assessments of legal risk and exhibit the ability to effectively communicate legal risk to non-legal professionals

  • Exercise excellent judgment in identifying and escalating issues to management

  • Support the overall objectives of the Sports Medicine Business Unit and Enterprise Governance Department

  • Collaborate and communicate with colleagues, management, business partners, and outside counsel

  • Assist on other matters as needed

What you need:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and admission to practice law.

  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and ability to maintain good standing.

  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including advising business leaders on complex legal and compliance matters.

  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing a broad range of commercial agreements.

  • Proven ability to assess legal risk and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience building strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and senior business leaders.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, legal research, contract drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to integrity, ethics, accountability, and sound professional judgment.

  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively to non-legal audiences.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries.

  • In-house legal experience with a medical technology, healthcare, life sciences, or pharmaceutical organization.

  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, or other strategic business transactions.

  • Experience advising on healthcare laws, regulations, and interactions with healthcare professionals.

  • Strong commercial contracting experience, including sales, supply, distribution, consulting, services, and clinical research agreements.

  • Experience partnering with business leaders on change management, organizational transformation, or strategic initiatives.

  • Experience collaborating with legal specialists in areas such as data privacy, intellectual property, litigation, employment, and regulatory affairs.

  • Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to balance legal risk management and business objectives.
