Job description

Title:

Imagery Scientist

Belong, Connect, Grow, with KBR!

Program Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Imagery Scientist to join our team supporting advanced geospatial intelligence missions. The successful candidate will process and analyze non-literal EO passive sensor data from satellite and aerial platforms, developing high-quality intelligence products. This role emphasizes technical expertise in remote sensing, image exploitation, and geospatial analysis to derive actionable insights for defense, national security, and related applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and analyze non-literal EO passive sensor data to extract intelligence value, including spectral, spatial, and temporal characteristics.
  • Produce and deliver high-quality analysis products, including:
    • Detailed analysis reports summarizing findings and methodologies.
    • Data deliverables such as processed datasets and derived products.
    • Comprehensive technical imagery science reports documenting advanced exploitation techniques and results.
    • Shapefiles and geospatial vector layers for feature extraction and mapping.
    • Signatures (spectral, spatial, or temporal) for target characterization and change detection.
    • Supporting graphics, visualizations, and annotated imagery products.
  • Develop and apply custom algorithms and workflows for imagery exploitation using programming and specialized tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate imagery science outputs into broader GEOINT assessments.
  • Stay current with emerging remote sensing technologies and contribute to process improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's or PhD preferred) in Imagery Science, Remote Sensing, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Geospatial Sciences, or a related STEM field.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in imagery science, remote sensing analysis, or GEOINT exploitation (additional years of experience may substitute for advanced degrees).
  • Coding background with proficiency in:
    • Python (required for scripting, automation, and algorithm development).
    • MATLAB (for signal processing and prototyping).
    • ArcGIS (essential for geospatial analysis, mapping, and product generation; ArcPy scripting a plus).
  • Hands-on experience with key GEOINT tools, including:
    • ESRI suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap).
    • ENVI for hyperspectral and multispectral image processing.
  • Solid foundation in data analysis, including:
    • Signal processing techniques.
    • Photogrammetry principles and applications.
  • In-depth imagery processing knowledge, with demonstrated coding experience to support custom processing pipelines.
  • Strong remote sensing expertise across multiple modalities, including:
    • Satellite and aerial platforms.
    • Hyperspectral imaging.
    • IR (infrared) data.
    • SAR (synthetic aperture radar).
    • Multispectral sensors.
  • Experience working with non-literal EO passive sensor data exploitation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for producing technical reports and briefing senior stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
