Remote Solar Performance Engineer information

What is a remote solar performance engineer?

A Remote Solar Performance Engineer is a professional who monitors, analyzes, and optimizes the performance of solar power systems from a remote location. They use specialized software and tools to track energy production, identify issues, and recommend improvements for solar installations. Their work helps ensure that solar energy systems operate efficiently and meet performance goals, often collaborating with on-site technicians and project managers. This role is crucial for maintaining the reliability and profitability of solar power assets, especially in geographically dispersed installations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote solar performance engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Solar Performance Engineer, you need a solid grounding in electrical or mechanical engineering, solar PV systems, and data analysis, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with solar monitoring software, SCADA systems, and data analytics platforms, as well as certifications like NABCEP, is often required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication set top performers apart in this role. These competencies ensure accurate performance analysis, timely issue resolution, and optimized energy output for solar installations.

Are remote solar performance engineers in demand?

Remote solar performance engineers are in growing demand as the solar industry expands and emphasizes remote monitoring, data analysis, and system optimization. Skills in data analytics, PV system performance, and familiarity with monitoring tools increase employability in this field.

How does a remote solar performance engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams to resolve system issues?

Remote Solar Performance Engineers play a critical role in diagnosing and troubleshooting performance issues by analyzing data from monitoring systems. They often collaborate closely with on-site technicians and field engineers via virtual meetings, detailed reports, and real-time communication tools. When a performance anomaly is detected, the remote engineer pinpoints the issue and provides actionable recommendations, ensuring on-site teams can address problems efficiently. This collaborative structure helps maximize system uptime and maintain optimal energy output.

What is the difference between Remote Solar Performance Engineer vs Remote Solar Design Engineer?

Job description

Company Description
ibV Energy Partners is a leading national developer of utility-scale solar + storage power plants. We are the largest and most active subsidiary of a major global solar IPP. With a fast-moving and a highly successful team of development, analytics and finance professionals, we are changing the way that mainstream energy is generated and consumed across the US. Our pipeline includes more than 7 GWp of solar and storage projects across 20 states, and we count a number of Fortune 1000 companies as long-term partners and clients.
We are seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Senior Manager, Planning & Engineering to lead the integration of engineering, permitting, and project development functions across ibV's national solar and storage pipeline.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical and analytical expertise with strategic leadership capabilities-balancing high-level oversight of project design, risk management, and permitting with hands-on coordination between internal teams and external partners. This individual will serve as the Deputy to the Executive Director of Planning & Engineering and primary liaison between the Planning & Engineering Division, Project Development, and Corporate Finance, ensuring that all engineering deliverables align with commercial objectives and execution timelines.
Job Description
The Senior Manager will oversee the engineering strategy, design optimization, and permitting pathways for ibV's large-scale renewable projects. You will play a critical role in shaping the company's project pipeline from feasibility through construction readiness, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and innovation in all technical deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as Deputy to the Executive Director of Planning & Engineering, providing leadership continuity, operational support and decision-making authority in their absence.
  • Assist the Executive Director of the P&E Division in leading technical and strategic activities, ensuring alignment of engineering strategy with corporate and project development goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between Planning & Engineering, Project Development, and Corporate Finance to integrate site design, permitting, and interconnection requirements into project business cases.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, risk assessment frameworks, and quality control protocols across all projects.

Project Development & Execution
  • Oversee early-stage site evaluations, constraints analyses, and conceptual layouts to inform project viability and site control decisions.
  • Direct permitting strategy and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies (USACE, SHPO, USFWS, and AHJs).
  • Manage consultant teams developing civil, electrical, and environmental studies; ensure deliverables meet ibV and regulatory standards.
  • Advise Project Development and Corporate Finance on cost, constructability, and technical risk factors affecting project economics.

Governance & Oversight
  • Track engineering budgets, schedules, and progress across multiple concurrent projects; identify and mitigate risks to scope and timeline.
  • Oversee technical reviews and provide recommendations for executive decision-making and investment committees.
  • Oversee the development of internal reporting dashboards and process documentation to enhance visibility and accountability.

Team & Culture Development
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and planners to build organizational capability and technical excellence.
  • Foster a collaborative, solutions-driven team culture grounded in innovation, quality, and accountability.
  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, and training initiatives within the Planning & Engineering Division.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Electrical, or related Engineering field (P.E. license or PMP certification preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in renewable energy, site development, or related engineering management roles.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and external consultants in fast-paced, multi-project environments.
  • Strong understanding of permitting processes and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advanced proficiency with GIS, CAD, and project management software; familiarity with PVSyst and other performance tools a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills with an ability to synthesize complex technical data into actionable insights.
