What is a remote software trainer?

A Remote Software Trainer is a professional who educates individuals or groups on how to use specific software applications or systems, working entirely online rather than in a traditional classroom setting. They develop training materials, conduct live virtual sessions, and provide support to ensure users understand and can efficiently use the software. These trainers may work for software companies, training firms, or as independent consultants, and they leverage video conferencing, screen sharing, and other digital tools to deliver their instruction.

What does a remote software trainer do?

A remote software trainer teaches employees of an organization on how to use a new or updated program using an online interface. In this role, you work from home to conduct training in a virtual classroom where you demonstrate the features of a software application to groups of varied sizes. Your duties also involve assessing the knowledge of the workforce to optimize the process and evaluating their progress. Other responsibilities focus on answering questions the staff has and making recommendations for additional content. Remote training offers myriad advantages for both employers and you as the trainer in flexibility and affordability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote software trainer?

To thrive as a Remote Software Trainer, you need a deep understanding of the software being taught, instructional design skills, and experience in adult learning principles, often backed by a degree in education or IT. Familiarity with virtual training platforms (like Zoom or Microsoft Teams), learning management systems (LMS), and relevant software certifications is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for effectively engaging diverse learners in a remote environment. These abilities ensure clear knowledge transfer, high learner satisfaction, and successful adoption of software tools.

What are some common challenges faced by remote software trainers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Software Trainers often encounter challenges such as engaging participants in a virtual environment and troubleshooting technical issues during live sessions. To overcome these, trainers can leverage interactive tools like polls and breakout rooms to foster participation, and prepare contingency plans for common technical problems. Additionally, clear communication and regular check-ins with learners help ensure everyone stays on track and feels supported throughout the training.

Bridgeway Benefit Technologies

Tampa, FL โ€ข Remote

Full-time

Posted 19 days ago

Job description

Bridgeway Benefit Technologies is seeking a Software Trainer to join our growing Professional Services organization. As a Software Trainer, you will be responsible for creating and conducting interactive classes for our customers using our proprietary enterprise benefits administration software. This software handles the calculation and processing of benefit funds, eligibility, claims, and pensions for the Taft-Hartley industry. Join our team and become a product subject matter expert while contributing to the development of eLearning content, and collaborate with all levels of the business to achieve our goals and enhance the customer experience.

We're looking for a driver to take real ownership of customer-facing training, to allow our Business Analysts to step back and focus on core analysis and configuration work. That means the right person will need to be confident learning a complex, highly configurable product largely on their own, asking the right questions, building genuine expertise, and turning that knowledge into a training curriculum they can create and facilitate for both internal teams and external customers. Because the software and our clients' configurations rarely fit neatly into simple rules, this role calls for someone who is comfortable thriving in the gray areas, not just the black and white.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and delivering a comprehensive training curriculum to Bridgeway clients. This position requires a combination of Taft Hartley industry knowledge and software training experience. This candidate must have the ability to successfully deliver synchronous live training sessions and be comfortable deploying trainings with customers using virtual meeting rooms such as Teams and Zoom. Additionally, we are looking for a seasoned trainer with professional interpersonal skills who can adapt their delivery of training content to meet the varying skill levels and technical aptitude of our customers.

This is a remote position, with travel approximately 25% of the time within the U.S. and Canada. East Coast candidates are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of customer-facing training, serve as the primary owner and point of contact for all training engagements.
  • Approach the product with curiosity and confidence, proactively learning its functionality and complexity, including customer-specific configurations well enough to independently build and facilitate a training curriculum for both internal teams and external customers.
  • Play a crucial part in guiding learners through our curriculum. Using clear and concise language, develop and maintain training materials, including e-learning modules and exercises.
  • Write and maintain clear, well-organized job aids, quick-reference guides, and process documentation that customers and internal teams can use on their own.
  • Collaborate with leadership to enhance the curriculum based on industry trends and customer feedback.
  • Collaborate with product managers and subject matter experts to understand the software's functionality and its relevance to the Taft Hartley domain and continuously improve the training curriculum and materials.
  • Train new customers on the proper use of our software, both virtually and by visiting customer sites across the U.S.
  • Consult with customers and internal teams to plan, develop, and deliver customer-specific training based on customer software configurations or other focused key areas within the scope of the project.
  • Manage customer training schedules and deployment of training sessions with various customer accounts.
  • Facilitate tailored training programs for external clients, ensuring they can effectively navigate and utilize the software for their Taft Hartley needs.
  • Ensure that training sessions are interactive, engaging, and effective in imparting knowledge and skills.
  • Monitor user progress and gather feedback through these platforms to further refine the training content.
  • Gather feedback post-training sessions to assess the effectiveness of the training programs.
  • Continuously refine and improve training content and delivery methods based on feedback and software updates.
  • Regularly update personal knowledge on Taft Hartley practices, ensuring that the training content remains relevant and in line with current industry standards.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of each training session using metrics and best practices.
  • Become a product subject matter expert and contribute to eLearning content development.
  • Be a solutions-oriented, self-starter with a genuine passion for improving processes, documentation, and the customer experience.
  • Collaborate with all levels of the business to achieve goals.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience delivering technology-based training to adult learners and developing curriculum
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field or strong knowledge of instructional design techniques is required
  • Proven experience as a software trainer and a passion for continuous learning and professional growth
  • Comfortable operating in the gray, not just the black and white — able to make sound judgment calls in ambiguous situations, given the complexity and configurability of the software and the range of customer environments
  • Confidence to learn a complex, highly configurable product independently, and translate that knowledge into a training curriculum for internal and external audiences
  • Technical writing skills, with experience producing clear job aids, quick-reference guides, and process documentation for a technical or software audience
  • A self-starter mindset with a genuine passion for identifying and improving processes, not just documenting them as-is
  • Experience in the Taft-Hartley industry and with enterprise-class software solutions is preferred
  • Certification in training or learning and development is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to engage with individuals at all levels of an organization
  • Proactive, self-motivated, organized, reliable, outgoing, and enjoys tackling challenges
  • Familiarity with modern training methods, tools, and techniques
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex software functionalities in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training sessions simultaneously.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
