What is a Remote Software Trainer?

A Remote Software Trainer is a professional who educates individuals or groups on how to use specific software applications or systems, working entirely online rather than in a traditional classroom setting. They develop training materials, conduct live virtual sessions, and provide support to ensure users understand and can efficiently use the software. These trainers may work for software companies, training firms, or as independent consultants, and they leverage video conferencing, screen sharing, and other digital tools to deliver their instruction.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Software Trainers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Software Trainers often encounter challenges such as engaging participants in a virtual environment and troubleshooting technical issues during live sessions. To overcome these, trainers can leverage interactive tools like polls and breakout rooms to foster participation, and prepare contingency plans for common technical problems. Additionally, clear communication and regular check-ins with learners help ensure everyone stays on track and feels supported throughout the training.

Job description

Description

Theย Head of Softwareย will own theย architecture and implementationย of Mantari's full-stack weather intelligence platform - the software backbone that powers sensing, data assimilation, forecasting, analytics, and decision delivery.

You'll design and lead the buildout of theย core platformย that ingests global sensor data, runs large-scale model training and inference, manages distributed compute pipelines, and serves forecast and analytic products to customers via APIs and integrated applications. This is aย systems leadership role: you'll define the architecture, hire and mentor the engineering team, and ensure the platform meets Mantari's demanding standards forย scale,ย resilience,ย latency, andย security.

You'll partner closely with theย Head of Weatherย (who owns forecasting science), and Growth team andย Forwardย Deployedย Engineers(who integrate customer systems). Your job:ย turn the full-stack vision intoย codeย and build theย infrastructure of foresight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect Mantari's end-to-end platform, spanning:
    • Sensor platform autonomy and edge compute
    • Sensor data ingestion and transformation
    • Data assimilation and model runtime orchestration
    • Scalable model training and distributed inference
    • API services and analytics layers
    • Secure multi-tenant customer delivery
  • Lead software designย for modular, cloud-native, and high-availability systems (microservices, container orchestration, data streaming)
  • Define the platform runtimeย -- how models (physics-based, hybrid, AI) are deployed, scheduled, and versioned.ย ย Verification/validation for customers is critical!
  • Build developer velocityย with best-in-class CI/CD, observability, and deployment pipelines
  • Own cloud infrastructureย (GCP/AWS/Azure), including cost optimization, GPU fleet management, and multi-region scaling
  • Establish data platform foundationsย (storage, ETL, metadata, lineage, reanalysis)
  • Collaborateย with ML and atmospheric science teams to align software design with model and data needs
  • Set technical standardsย across codebase, security, APIs, and reliability
  • Recruit, mentor, and scaleย Mantari's software engineering team
Requirements
  • BS/MS/PhD inย Computer Science,ย Software Engineering, or related technical field
  • 8+ yearsย in software architecture and systems engineering
  • Proven experienceย designing and operating large-scale, cloud-native platformsย (multi-service, distributed, high-throughput)
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Cloud infrastructureย (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
    • Container orchestrationย (Kubernetes, Nomad, Slurm)
    • Data streaming and pipelinesย (Kafka, Beam, Ray, Spark)
    • Microservice design, API gateways, and backend architecture
  • Strong foundation inย DevOps: CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and observability
  • Experience supportingย ML/AI pipelinesย (training, inference, versioning) at scale
  • Track record of leading teams deliveringย production-critical platforms
Bonus Qualifications
  • Background buildingย real-time analytics,ย or computing systems/earth observation systems
  • Familiarity withย GPU-accelerated workloads,ย distributed training, orย model serving at scale
  • Experience integratingย multi-modal dataย (satellite, sensor, remote sensing, IoT)
  • Knowledge ofย forecasting systems,ย data assimilation, orย simulation pipelines
  • Prior experience inย high-stakes environmentsย (aerospace, defense, energy, or autonomy)
  • Comfort working across disciplines - science, ML, software, product
  • Strong communication skills and leadership presence
How We Work
  • Small, senior team; high autonomy, high expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with the founding team and SMEs to push the boundaries of observation-driven AI-native weather forecasting, and turn weather into an advantage, not a roadblock.
  • LA HQ required.
  • Equity upside commensurate with being one of the first core team members. Competitive salary, full benefits, and hardware budget.
