About the Client:

Inner Circle Agency is hiring on behalf of a specialized engineering and manufacturing company focused on power distribution and electrical infrastructure. The team is known for delivering highly customized switchgear and switchboard solutions, working on complex, large-scale projects across multiple industries.


Role Overview:

Our client is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer with direct experience in UL891 switchboards or similar switchgear environments. This is a highly technical, hands-on role focused on delivering compliant, high-quality designs while supporting and mentoring junior team members.

The team is open to candidates relocating to the Charleston area.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and engineer low voltage switchboards in compliance with UL891 and related standards

  • Develop detailed 3D sheet metal components and full assemblies (150+ BOM items)

  • Create and review wiring diagrams including PLCs, relays, breakers, and control systems

  • Produce and interpret one-line diagrams, layout drawings, and front views using CAD tools

  • Ensure all designs meet NEC and applicable regulatory requirements

  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and internal engineering teams

  • Support junior engineers and contribute to technical problem-solving across projects


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field)

  • 4–8 years of experience working in a UL891 switchboard or equivalent switchgear manufacturing environment

  • Strong experience designing low voltage power distribution systems

  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (Autodesk preferred)

  • Strong understanding of NEC and electrical design standards

  • Experience creating detailed wiring diagrams and system layouts

Preferred:

  • Experience with UL67, UL508A, or UL1558 standards

  • Experience sizing conductors and overcurrent protection devices (OCPDs)

  • Strong knowledge of control circuits and electrical logic

  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
