Job description

Remote Mainframe Developer (zOS) - Intermediate Systems Engineer
Location: Remote (CST Support) | C2C | Cedar Rapids, IA, 52404
About the Role
Join Aegon's global IT team as an Intermediate Systems Engineer supporting our enterprise zOS Mainframe environments. In this fully remote position, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining, enhancing, and securing critical mainframe infrastructure, with primary coverage during US Central business hours (08:00-16:30 CST) and rotating on-call support. Collaborate with international teams to deliver best-in-class, innovative IT services that drive Aegon's digital transformation and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily operational support for mainframe components and software, ensuring optimal system health and availability
- Install, test, document, and maintain zOS mainframe systems within a sysplex environment
- Manage and troubleshoot BMC Control-D output management systems including mission, decollation, report definitions, and web access
- Proactively monitor key system metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and prevent potential issues through regular software and vendor updates
- Resolve moderate system issues to root cause, working with vendors for advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Support disaster recovery testing and contribute to business continuity planning
- Participate in internal and business-unit-driven projects, including third-party software installations and platform adaptations
- Deliver responsive customer support, fulfilling service requests and supporting on-call rotations (including weekends as needed)
- Continuously improve processes and systems to enhance service reliability and efficiency
Required Skills and Experience
- 4-7 years' experience in a mainframe support role
- Moderate knowledge of z architecture mainframe systems, JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and BMC Control-D
- Proficiency in at least one mainframe programming language: Assembler, COBOL, REXX, or SAS
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, disaster recovery concepts, and documented testing/implementation procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, highly distributed team environment
- Commitment to information security and compliance with policy standards

- Experience with enterprise-scale sysplex environments and global infrastructure support
