What is a remote SLPA?
A Remote SLPA (Speech-Language Pathology Assistant) job involves providing speech therapy services to clients virtually under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). Responsibilities include assisting with treatment plans, conducting therapy sessions, and documenting progress. Remote SLPAs use teletherapy platforms to work with students or patients in schools, clinics, or private practice settings. This role requires strong communication skills, technical proficiency, and compliance with state licensure requirements.
What does a remote SLPA do?
A typical workday for a Remote SLPA involves providing virtual support to clients under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, including implementing therapy plans, conducting activities, and maintaining detailed session notes. You’ll likely have scheduled video calls with clients, communicate regularly with your supervising SLP for guidance, and handle follow-up documentation or progress tracking. Most positions require managing your own time efficiently, adapting to different client needs, and staying organized in a remote setting. Collaborative communication with both supervisors and caregivers is common, ensuring continuity of care and client progress.
What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote SLPA?
To thrive as a Remote SLPA (Speech-Language Pathology Assistant), you need a background in speech-language pathology or communication sciences, along with state licensure or certification where required. Familiarity with teletherapy platforms, electronic documentation systems, and compliance with HIPAA regulations is essential. Strong communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills help Remote SLPAs engage clients and coordinate with supervising Speech-Language Pathologists. These competencies ensure effective support for clients’ therapy goals while maintaining professional standards and efficient virtual service delivery.

Job description
Every therapist deserves a work environment that enables them to provide the best possible services, just as every child deserves the support that empowers them to find their voice. AXIS Teletherapy was built by two SLP sisters who believed therapists thrive when they're part of a community designed for balance, connection and purpose. Working with schools across the country, both virtual and brick-and-mortar, AXIS delivers remote therapy through a trusted team of speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, counselors, and evaluators. The result is high-quality care for students across the country and a strong, supportive community for the professionals who serve them.
Speech Language Pathologists at AXIS support students in building the communication skills that are foundational to learning, connection, and confidence. Through virtual sessions, they deliver personalized therapy, collaborate with educators, and help each student progress in ways that are meaningful and measurable. Their work ensures that even from a distance, students feel heard, understood, and empowered.
