Senior Project Manager (SPM)

The Position

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) for Above Group shall contribute and support leadership of Project Management efforts consisting of full discipline AE and cross discipline Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) projects for the firm. The PM shall be a graduated engineer or architect from an ABET accredited institution who shall directly contribute to the Firm and its success through project management efforts. The PM is also responsible for contributing to the growth of the team by leading and mentoring subordinate staff in expanding their capabilities and contributions. The PM will be responsible for the five phases of project management which includes conception andinitiation,planning,execution, performance/monitoring, and project close.

General Duties


  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for all projects to which they are assigned; this includes managing external design sub consultants and internal design teams.
  • Create and interpret information set forth in a Basis of Design, design criteria documents, reports, and other high quality highly technical written documents as needed.
  • Maintain a clear line of communication between clients, contractors and project managers on all current and future projects.
  • Conduct quality control checklists-i.e., review drawings, specs and narratives for project managers.
  • Revise and correct any oversights on drawings, specs and narratives.
  • Facilitate and engage with new clients in support of business development activities, including support for project interviews, technical writing for project proposals, and detailed government fee proposals
  • Work on contracts to provide for the sub-consultant and coordinate with them to gain approval on contracts and distribute for signatures.
  • Keep up-to-date documentation and record keeping of the VA standards and codes.
  • Ensure project records are always up to date, staff that are visiting job sites, and timelines of all projects.
  • Keep a record of schedules and calendars with project deadlines for design teams.
  • Ensure response times for RFIs and Submittals are above the company standard.
  • Maintain record of all communication and work pieces discussed with contractors.
  • Contribute to the development of company-wide standards and processes.
  • Provide mentorship towards junior and senior employees.
  • Ensure the submission of timesheets for employees under your supervision.
  • Market and network the company's services by helping to coordinate public relations and engaging with potential future clients.
  • Attend and network at conferences and industry events, acting as a representative of the company.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Must display high levels of confidentiality, integrity and dependability.
  • Proficient knowledge of computers, Microsoft Suite, i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel, and Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and utilizing WBS and EVM frameworks.
  • Proficient knowledge in managing workflow for MEP/FP designers and engineers in the AEC industry.
  • Knowledgeable with applying PMI methodologies.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills to edit design specifications and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) incorporating information from project documents.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work independently/self-motivated, as well as in a collaborative team setting, highly organized, and detailed-oriented.
  • Strong project management, strategic planning and problem-solving skills, and able to multi-task.
  • Strong time management and the ability to be flexible with schedules and duties.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion with respect to important matters.


Minimum Requirements


The Senior Project Manager shall meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture or related field, preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years experience (post degree) working for an MEP Engineering Firm or an AE Firm
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License or Registered Architect (AIA)
  • Previous experience in managing workflow for MEP/FP designers and engineers in the Healthcare or Science/Technology fields
  • Operational Experience in both REVIT and AutoCAD
  • Operational experience with Microsoft Project
  • PMI PMP Certification desired but not required
  • Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written
  • This is a remote position. Local candidates will be given the option to work in the office or hybrid.
