Position Summary
Navarro is seeking a Kentucky-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) - Mechanical to support bid and task-based design engineering services for the Department of Energy (DOE) facility modification work in Paducah, Kentucky. This role supports mechanical engineering design scope for existing DOE-owned facilities, including piping, pumps, equipment, and related mechanical systems.
The work consists of engineering support for modifications to existing facilities, including mechanical piping runs to new facilities, repair or replacement of obsolete components and equipment, mechanical design documentation, and field visits or project meetings at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant as required by individual task assignments.
Responsibilities
  • Provide mechanical engineering support for DOE facility modification projects, with emphasis on piping, pumps, equipment, and related mechanical systems.
  • Develop and review mechanical specifications, calculations, engineering evaluations, statements of work, design drawings, test plans, and technical design documentation.
  • Support mechanical piping runs to new facilities and modifications involving repair or replacement of obsolete components and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and provide mechanical input for design, installation, construction, testing, and start-up support activities.
  • Apply applicable design codes, standards, site procedures, engineering design control requirements, and assigned quality levels to task-based engineering work.
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineering management, discipline leads, client representatives, and other technical staff to support task execution, reviews, schedules, and field visit needs.
  • Support work planning, technical input, milestone deliverables, engineering documentation, and design activities on an intermittent or task-specific basis as project requirements are defined.
  • Comply with site access, safety, quality assurance, security, radiological control, and worker safety and health requirements applicable to DOE facility work.

Requirements
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Experience developing mechanical engineering design products, including specifications, calculations, evaluations, statements of work, and design drawings for mechanical systems.
  • Department of Energy (DOE) experience is required.
  • Experience supporting engineering work in industrial, chemical processing, nuclear processing, environmental, or other complex regulated facility environments.
  • Ability to support task-based engineering assignments that may range from a few weeks to several months, depending on design scope and project needs.
  • Ability to provide individual Kentucky PE license information for proposal submittal purposes; associated subcontractor firm must hold a current permit in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to perform engineering services.
  • Ability to support field visits and/or project meetings at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah, Kentucky, as needed.
  • Ability to meet DOE site access, badging, security, training, safety, quality assurance, and radiological control requirements, as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 Process Piping.
  • Experience with piping and pump systems in industrial, chemical processing, nuclear processing, or DOE facility environments.
  • Experience developing test plans and troubleshooting equipment problems.
  • Experience supporting installation, construction, field walkdowns, and start-up activities for facility modification projects.
  • Experience coordinating mechanical design scope with civil/structural, electrical, I&C, chemical, project management, safety, quality, and field execution stakeholders.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline and current Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky are required. DOE experience and mechanical engineering experience supporting industrial, nuclear, environmental, piping, pump, equipment, or other complex regulated facility design work are required.
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
