Position Summary

The Senior Systems & Security Administrator is responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of CCNC’s information systems. This role combines advanced security expertise with hands‑on systems administration across our AWS and Office 365 environments. The position designs, installs, configures, and maintains servers, storage, networking systems, and enterprise applications, while serving as the organization’s subject matter expert for Office 365 security, including SharePoint, Azure AD, Exchange, Teams, and OneDrive.

Essential Functions

Security and Compliance

  • Lead security patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration hardening across Office 365 and Windows environments.
  • Develop, document, and maintain security test plans, processes, and procedures.
  • Produce security reports and collaborate with internal teams to mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and maintain risk mitigation strategies and action plans for audit findings and security assessments.
  • Conduct periodic information security risk analyses and system activity reviews.
  • Own disaster recovery and business continuity readiness for Office 365 workloads.
  • Manage access reviews, authorization audits, and tenant‑level security reporting.
  • Provide regular security insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls.
  • Support ITIL‑based change, problem, and incident management processes.
  • Work with GRC staff to manage third-party engagements of audits, network scans, and application penetration testing.

Systems Engineering

  • Architect and optimize our Office 365 tenant and integrated cloud ecosystem.
  • Deploy, configure, and support servers, directories, storage, and related infrastructure.
  • Support networking and security infrastructure (firewalls, WAPs, cabling) in the Garner office.
  • Develop standardized installation/configuration procedures and systems documentation.
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools, automation strategies, and operational improvements.

Operations and Escalated Support

  • Monitor system health across server, network, and cloud resources; ensure platform stability and availability.
  • Administer KnowBe4 phishing programs and Zix email threat monitoring.
  • Oversee backup operations and verify data integrity across the O365 environment.
  • Manage identity lifecycle tasks—user provisioning, permissions, and access control.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex issues and production incidents.
  • Troubleshoot and recover systems impacted by software or configuration failures.

Lifecycle Management & Optimization

  • Apply operating system and Office 365 updates, role changes, and service enhancements.
  • Maintain clear operational and configuration documentation.
  • Perform performance reporting and capacity planning.
  • Manage SharePoint sensitivity labels and compliance reporting.
  • Continuously tune systems for performance, reliability, and resource efficiency.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 4+ years in security engineering or information security operations.
  • 3+ years hands‑on experience administering Office 365 and Azure AD.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or equivalent 7+ years of professional experience.
  • Certifications (Azure, Security+, MS‑500, etc.) are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong experience with Active Directory security, Azure AD, and Windows Server environments.
  • Understanding security frameworks and standards (NIST, PCI, CIS, etc.).
  • Experience with vulnerability management and incident response processes.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve complex, high‑impact production incidents quickly and methodically.
  • Deep knowledge of Office 365 infrastructure and ecosystem.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of servers, networking, and encryption technologies.
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols and services (DNS, File/Print Sharing, CIFS, NFS, Active Directory, NPS, RADIUS, IIS, Apache, etc.).
  • Familiarity with advanced networking concepts (IP routing, LAN/WAN, DMZ, VPN, SAN, SNMP, etc.).
  • Ability to script/automate using administrative languages such as PowerShell, VBScript, Bash, Batch, or Python.
