SENIOR ADMINISTRATOR

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is not available for a Hybrid Telework workweek

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides security services to all Wake County Public Schools System's (WCPSS) properties.  Conducts emergency drills, as required, by general statue and BOE policy, coordinates large event security plans, first responder to all emergencies on any WCPSS property, and investigates any criminal activity on WCPSS property.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, standards, and regulations regarding law enforcement and/or investigations;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Apps;

  • Skills in analysis and problem-solving;

  • Organizational skills;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and remain calm, professional, and functional during stressful circumstances;

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work assignments and resources;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, representatives of government, volunteer organizations, public officials, and business/community organizations.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in law enforcement, security, or emergency management industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts thorough investigations of incidents involving WCPSS, including interviews of students and WCPSS personnel.

  • Investigates policy violations that may lead up to search and seizure, including the search of students, vehicles, lockers, and facilities.

  • Coordinates and provides security for the protection of dignitaries at various school functions as well as provides security at student assignment hearings, school board meetings, periodic athletic events, and high school graduation.

  • Maintains internal intelligence concerning threats of violence and for statistical purposes so that violation patterns can be detected and remedial plans implemented.

  • Plans, coordinates, and participates in periodic canine searches on WCPSS school campuses.

  • Prepares reports and testimony at juvenile court proceedings and student due process hearings as well as maintains custody of evidence and coordinates with law enforcement agencies for court presentations and testimony.

  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of North Carolina General Statutes pertaining to school board requirements in order to assist school administrators during incidents, including law enforcement notification requirements and issues involving juvenile law.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding and application of Board policy including the Code of Student Conduct and provides interpretations of policy to school-based administrators.

  • Participates in parent conferences and other meetings with school administrators, as needed.

  • Gives presentations on school security-related topics to large groups such as school staff, PTA organizations, and other groups requesting security and safety information in our school system.

  • Coordinates activities that involve both sworn law enforcement and private security personnel.

  • Participates in situations that involve Wake County Emergency Management, mental health agencies, and the juvenile court system.

  • Keeps up to date with student assignment procedures and conducts residency checks, when requested.

  • Prepares written security risk assessments of school system sites and properties.

  • Keeps abreast of studies and awareness of security-related technologies and strategies.

  • Provides investigative summary reports, when requested.

  • Assists schools with coordinating and executing emergency proactive action drills.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned. 

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving a vehicle.
