Remote Script Editor information

What is a remote script editor?

Remote script editors are professionals who review, revise, and refine scripts for television, film, podcasts, or other media, working from a location outside of a traditional office or studio. Their responsibilities include checking for consistency, clarity, tone, and structure, as well as ensuring the script meets production requirements. They often collaborate with writers, producers, and directors via digital communication tools to deliver polished, production-ready scripts. Remote script editors must have strong editing skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to provide constructive feedback. Their work is essential to ensuring the final script meets both creative and technical standards.

What are some common challenges faced by remote script editors when collaborating with writers and production teams?

Remote script editors often encounter challenges in maintaining clear communication and real-time feedback with writers and production teams due to differing time zones and the lack of in-person meetings. It's essential to establish structured communication channels, such as regular video calls and shared editing platforms, to ensure alignment on script revisions and deadlines. Strong organizational skills and proactive follow-ups can help overcome these hurdles, enabling smooth collaboration and high-quality script development despite the remote setup.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote script editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Script Editor, you need strong language proficiency, attention to detail, and a background in writing or editing, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with screenwriting software (such as Final Draft or Celtx) and cloud-based collaboration tools is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and adaptability are standout soft skills for meeting deadlines and working with diverse creative teams remotely. These skills ensure scripts are polished, consistent, and align with project goals, which is critical for successful media productions.

Job description

Location: Remote — Canada or North America-based
Job Type: Full-time, Part-time, Contract/Freelance
Pay: $120,000 to $180,000/year with senior experience, plus a performance bonus paid as a % of ad spend on your winning creatives.

About Pearl West

Pearl West is a holding company building and scaling consumer brands in the health, wellness, and pet categories. Our leadership came from Mars Men, Gruns, Ryze, and Goli.

The Role

You will study customers, offers, competitors, performance data, and winning ads. You will turn those insights into angles, hooks, scripts, concepts, and clear briefs that our editors and media buyers can execute quickly.

This role is AI forward. We expect you to use AI across research, ideation, scripting, and production. AI forward does not mean AI slop. The taste, the insight, and the judgment are still yours. AI just makes you faster.

We are looking for a creative who can ideate, not just iterate or imitate.

What You Will Own
  • Build and maintain the creative testing roadmap for Meta
  • Research customers, competitors, market trends, and winning ad formats
  • Develop new concepts, angles, hooks, scripts, headlines, and primary copy
  • Create clear briefs that editors can execute without unnecessary back-and-forth
  • Review creative performance with media buyers and identify why ads win or lose
  • Iterate quickly on winning concepts before performance declines
  • Build repeatable systems for producing and learning from creative at scale
  • Maintain a strong pipeline of new concepts so the account never runs out of tests
Your Strengths
  • You understand direct-response psychology and know how to turn customer pain points into compelling creative
  • You understand awareness levels and write differently to each one
  • You can separate a strong concept from a polished but ineffective ad
  • You are comfortable using performance data to make creative decisions
  • You are AI forward: AI is already part of how you research, ideate, and produce, and none of it reads like AI slop
  • You communicate clearly with editors, media buyers, and leadership
  • You move quickly, take ownership, and do not need constant direction
Minimum Requirement

You have created ads that spent $100,000+ in a single month, and you can demonstrate it.

KPIs You Will Be Accountable For
  • Number of high-quality new concepts launched each week
  • Percentage of concepts that produce viable or winning ads
  • Speed from insight to brief to launched creative
  • Total spend carried by your creatives (this is also the number your bonus is calculated on)
Your First 90 Days
  • Weeks 1-2: deep research across customers, account history, and competitors
  • Day 30: first batch of briefs live, including net-new concepts
  • Day 60: a net-new concept of yours carrying real spend; weekly learnings loop running
  • Day 90: your creatives carry a growing share of account spend
