Trauma Registry Specialist (Remote, Contract)
Location: Remote Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week Pay Rate: $40–$42/hour Duration: Short-term temporary assignment, approximately 12–20 weeks Employment Type: Contract (W-2, through Madison Approach Staffing)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Trauma Registry Specialist to support a healthcare client's trauma program on a remote, short-term contract basis. This role is responsible for identifying, abstracting, and entering trauma patient data into the trauma registry, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and national reporting standards (including NTDB/TQIP submission requirements). This is a great fit for a registrar available for a focused, defined-length engagement who can work independently in a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enter and maintain accurate, timely data in the trauma registry database
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and AIS (Abbreviated Injury Scale) codes to injuries
  • Validate data for completeness and accuracy prior to state and national database submission (NTDB, TQIP, or applicable state trauma registry)
  • Identify and correct data deficiencies or discrepancies in existing registry records
  • Support performance improvement and quality reporting efforts by generating registry reports as needed
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable privacy regulations
  • Coordinate with hospital staff or outside agencies as needed to obtain complete medical record documentation
Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a trauma registrar, or equivalent experience in medical record abstraction and data entry into a clinical registry
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and trauma coding standards
  • Familiarity with ICD-10-CM coding and AIS/Injury Severity Scoring
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and trauma registry software (e.g., ImageTrend, Digital Innovation/Collector, or similar)
  • Certification as a Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) and/or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) preferred, but not required for this contract length
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a private, HIPAA-compliant workspace
Additional Details
  • This is a temporary, defined-length assignment (approximately 12–20 weeks) with no guarantee of extension or conversion to permanent status
  • Fully remote; candidate must be able to work independently and meet productivity/quality benchmarks set by the client
  • Weekly pay through Madison Approach Staffing, W2 only, no 1099 contractors
