Job description

The Associate Scientist II position is an individual contributor role within the Surveillance, Prevention, and Health Services Research (SPHeRe) department, working under supervision. This role independently analyzes publicly or privately available surveillance data and conducts literature review to lead original research projects and/or Facts & Figures (Cancer Statistics). This role also assists with data management and statistical programming. Additional responsibilities include assisting with special projects of enterprise-wide significance. The position provides an exceptional opportunity to gain broad experience in surveillance, prevention, health services, or disparity research.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Analyzes, interprets, and publishes high-impact research articles and/or Facts & Figures. 65%.

  • Provide analytical and technical support to senior staff members in SPHeRe and Discovery Pillar. 10%

  • Collaborates with internal and external subject matter experts. 10%

  • Publicizes research findings by presenting at scientific conferences and by speaking with the media. 5%

  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of data presented in scientific manuscripts and Facts & Figures Publication and scientific manuscripts (e.g., proofreading text and data checking). 5%

  • Document analytic programs and results in an organized, dated, and clearly labeled form for future reference. 5%

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Degree Required: Master's Degree or equivalent amount of experience and education in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Policy, Health Economics, Biostatistics, and Demography.

  • Preferred Degree: Master's Degree

  • Certificate(s) or License(s): N/A

  • Years of experience: Five to eight years' experience in statistical, medical, or biologic research. Cancer screening, early detection, and risk factor surveillance, and survey research experience highly desirable

  • Driver's License Requirement(s) [Included only if driving is part of the job duties]: N/A

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
  • 5 years of experience in statistical, medical, or biologic research

  • SAS or related statistical software (R, Stata, SUDAAN, SEER*Stat)

  • Cancer screening, early detection, risk factor surveillance, and survey research experience

  • Familiarity with large databases (NHIS, BRFSS, SEER, etc.)

  • Good communication skills.

  • Attention to detail with numbers and calculations.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position may require up to 5% travel for conferences, seminars, and workshops.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials up to 5 lbs

The starting rate is $75,000 to $78,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
