• You will organize and administer the various safety and occupational health programs within an Industrial area.
• You will identify, analyze, and evaluate a variety of hazards for personnel; assessing complex safety program elements resulting from military requirements to perform naval industrial construction, repair, and maintenance activities on submarines.
• You will formulate and implement local safety directives.
• You will conduct safety education and awareness.
• You will recommend hazard control techniques that will minimize or eliminate unsafe operations and conditions critically affecting a major program of fleet readiness.
• You will ensure programs are in compliance or that necessary plans and projects are in place to meet regulatory requirements.
• You will supervise the professional and technical work of subordinate workers, such as safety and occupational health specialists, industrial hygienists, and military personnel as assigned responsible for Safety and Occupational Health (OSH) duties.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
• Position requires regular and recurring shipboard and shop inspections, involving considerable walking, bending, stooping, crawling, carrying of light items and climbing vertical ladders.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying occupational safety and health principles in an industrial environment, including identifying and evaluating workplace hazards, interpreting and applying safety regulations and requirements, conducting or supporting mishap investigations, and recommending corrective actions. Candidates must also possess the ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, managers, and other stakeholders; build productive working relationships; influence and gain cooperation to resolve safety issues; and support the development of others through coaching, training, or technical guidance.
