Job description

Customer Engineering Product Specialist

We are looking for a talented Customer Engineering Product Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our DBU International Technical Support Department in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.

Remote work from Astana, Almaty or another city in Kazakhstan is available.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Serve as the senior technical connection between Cummins and OEM customers, ensuring customer needs are clearly represented throughout new product development programs.
  • Translate customer requirements and voice-of-customer insights into practical technical specifications, installation requirements, and product integration solutions.
  • Partner with OEMs, Application Engineers, Subject Matter Experts, and VPI teams to support product selection, machine integration, and equipment design decisions.
  • Deliver high-performance, cost-effective, and reliable system solutions that are optimized for customer applications, operating environments, and quality expectations.
  • Lead technical discussions with customer counterparts, including product changes, design configurations, installation requirements, and complex issue resolution.
  • Validate prototype machine performance and installation quality to ensure Cummins products are applied correctly and meet customer system requirements.
  • Use tools and processes such as Installation Quality Assurance, Advisor, COLS, GCE, Analysis Led Design, and Six Sigma to support data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Share technical knowledge by mentoring less experienced engineers, supporting technicians and student employees, and helping strengthen engineering processes across the team.
External Qualifications and Competencies

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Strong application engineering expertise, with the ability to solve complex product, installation, integration, and customer technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across OEM customers, internal teams, sales, marketing, and engineering functions.
  • Sound decision-making skills, including the ability to manage ambiguity, analyze data, balance technical trade-offs, and deliver practical customer-focused solutions.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to perform well under pressure in cross-functional, multicultural, and regional team environments.
Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Prior experience as a Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, Application Engineer, or in a similar technical role is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving, product selection, machine integration, installation quality, and data-based decision making is required.
  • Experience with data acquisition, data analysis, troubleshooting, and customer-facing technical support is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of MS Office tools is required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English, along with Kazakh or Russian is required.
  • This role may require licensing or compliance approval related to export controls or sanctions regulations.
