You'll render title opinions and run title examination at the center of the firm's transactional energy practice, examining ownership across the mineral, leasehold, and surface estates on private, state, and federal lands, and supporting operators and investors from Fortune 500 companies to E&P start-ups across active and emerging plays.
  • Render original drilling, supplemental, division order, due diligence, and limited-in-scope title opinions covering the oil and gas, leasehold, and surface estates
  • Examine and analyze chains of title across private-owned, state-owned, and federal lands (including BLM and Department of the Interior-administered tracts), interpreting leases, JOAs, farmout agreements, unit declarations, easements, probate records, affidavits, liens, and trust and corporate succession documents
  • Draft title curative requirements and the transactional documents needed to cure defects identified in diligence
  • Perform legal due diligence on multi-million-dollar acquisitions and divestitures, quantifying title defects into monetary amounts to support PSA negotiations
  • Prepare ownership analyses covering lessor royalty, non-participating royalty, overriding royalty, and working interests, and negotiate and document the associated energy transactions

Looking For:
  • Active license and good standing in an oil and gas producing state (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Wyoming, North Dakota, Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.)
  • 2+ years transactional energy experience with a title examination and title opinion focus
