Job description

Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill a remote Kubernetes Networking Platform Senior Engineer job with a key client in the Hospitality Space. If you have six or more years of technology experience including hands-on Kubernetes networking, service mesh, and public cloud infrastructure, this CONTRACT opportunity could be a great fit for you. In this role, you will lead the design, delivery, and operation of enterprise Kubernetes networking capabilities including ingress controllers, service mesh, DNS, and traffic management. You will bring deep experience in distributed systems, an automate-first mindset, and the ability to build platform abstractions that simplify complexity for developers while maintaining enterprise-grade reliability and security.

Kubernetes Networking Platform Senior Engineer Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate Kubernetes networking capabilities including ingress controllers, service mesh, and DNS, and implement standardized self-service networking patterns for application teams
  • Implement and manage traffic routing strategies including canary deployments, blue/green releases, and failover mechanisms, and ensure secure communication through network policies, mTLS, and zero-trust principles
  • Support monitoring, logging, and observability integrations (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry), implement platform-level security controls including OPA/Gatekeeper and secrets management, and participate in on-call rotations
  • Collaborate with security, platform, and application teams to define and enforce networking standards, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to architectural discussions and peer reviews
  • Contribute to engineering planning and prioritization, communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and assist with evaluating vendor solutions and tooling

Qualifications:

  • Six or more years of technology experience including three or more years in a platform, infrastructure, or systems engineering role and three or more years working with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience including networking fundamentals (CNI, service discovery, load balancing), networking primitives (Services, Ingress, NetworkPolicy), and components such as ingress controllers (kgateway, NGINX, ALB), service mesh (Istio, Cilium), and DNS systems (CoreDNS, External DNS)
  • Experience designing and operating highly available distributed systems targeting 99.99% uptime, with strong troubleshooting skills across application, network, and infrastructure layers
  • Proven ability to implement Infrastructure as Code and automation using tools such as Terraform, Helm, and GitOps workflows with an automate-first mindset
  • Experience working within a platform-as-a-product model, comfort using AI-powered development tools such as coding assistants or copilots, and the engineering judgment to evaluate AI-generated output for correctness, security, and platform alignment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
