How much do remote robot pilot jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for remote robot pilot in the United States is $28.24, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $22.12 and $32.93 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Robot Pilot, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Robot Pilot, you need strong spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and experience with robotics or remote vehicle operation, often supported by relevant technical training or certifications. Familiarity with teleoperation software, real-time control systems, and specialized input devices is typically required. Outstanding problem-solving abilities, situational awareness, and clear communication help individuals adapt to unexpected scenarios and collaborate with team members. These skills are crucial for ensuring precise, safe, and efficient operation of robots in remote or hazardous environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Robot Pilots when operating robots in unfamiliar environments?

Remote Robot Pilots often encounter challenges such as navigating unpredictable terrain, dealing with limited or delayed sensory feedback, and adapting to different robot platforms. Since pilots operate robots from a distance, they must rely on camera feeds and sensor data, which can sometimes lag or provide incomplete information. It’s crucial to develop strong spatial awareness and problem-solving skills to safely and efficiently control robots, especially when collaborating with on-site teams or engineers to troubleshoot unexpected issues.

What is a Remote Robot Pilot?

A Remote Robot Pilot is a professional who operates robots from a distance, typically using specialized software, remote controls, or computer interfaces. These robots can be used in various industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, and even space exploration. The role involves monitoring, guiding, and troubleshooting robots while ensuring that they perform their tasks efficiently and safely. Remote Robot Pilots often work from a central control room or even from their home, depending on the technology and employer. This job requires technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to changing situations.

What is the difference between Remote Robot Pilot vs Remote Drone Operator?

AspectRemote Robot PilotRemote Drone Operator
CredentialsRobotics certifications, technical trainingDrone pilot licenses, FAA certifications
Work EnvironmentRobotics labs, industrial sites, remote control centersOpen fields, construction sites, remote locations
Industry UsageManufacturing, logistics, researchAerial photography, surveying, delivery services
Common Search IntentRobotics control, automation jobsDrone flying, aerial operations

While both roles involve remote operation of unmanned systems, a Remote Robot Pilot typically controls robotic systems in industrial or research settings, requiring robotics-specific skills and certifications. A Remote Drone Operator mainly manages aerial drones for photography, surveying, or delivery, often needing drone-specific licenses. The roles overlap in remote control technology but differ in environment, industry focus, and required credentials.

Job description

Agility's commercially deployed humanoids operate alongside teams in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers—tackling physically demanding and repetitive tasks while enabling workers to focus on higher-value work. With industry-leading safety standards and years of proven deployment data, we're pioneering a new era of automation that enhances human potential.

About The Role

As a Sales Solutions Engineer at Agility Robotics, you will play a critical role in accelerating the adoption of our humanoid robotic systems across enterprise customers. You will partner closely with the Sales, Product, and Field Engineering teams to engage strategic clients, scope complex deployments, and design integration solutions that showcase the full potential of Agility's humanoid platforms.

You will leverage deep technical expertise across robotics, autonomy, and enterprise systems to influence customer architectures, drive solution design, and ensure successful onboarding and scaling of our technology in real-world environments. As a senior member of the team, you will act as a trusted technical advisor to both internal and external stakeholders, helping shape solution roadmaps and translating field insights into future product evolution.

About The Work

  • Own technical discovery and solutioning with strategic enterprise clients: conduct deep dives into customer environments, operational workflows, and integration requirements for humanoid robotics applications (e.g., logistics, manufacturing, material handling).
  • Act as the technical authority during pre-sales engagements: lead workshops, system demonstrations, proofs-of-concept, and technical evaluations to accelerate deal closure.
  • Design and communicate integration architectures: build scalable deployment models, specifying hardware/software interfaces, perception and manipulation requirements, fleet management integration, and safety considerations.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering and product teams to translate customer use cases, feature requests, and operational constraints into actionable feedback that informs product roadmap decisions.
  • Lead technical solution proposals for RFPs and large-scale opportunities, ensuring high-quality responses across system capabilities (performance, compliance, data handling, reliability).
  • Estimate technical effort for customizations, third-party integrations, and pilot programs, aligning with Delivery and Field Engineering on implementation resourcing.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to more junior Solutions Engineers and Sales team members, helping uplift the technical acumen across the broader commercial organization.
  • Ensure seamless post-sales transition by articulating customer-specific requirements, success criteria, and integration context to project execution teams.
  • Advocate for customer success: support existing accounts with adoption of new platform features, system upgrades, and expansion opportunities.

About You

  • 5–7 years of experience in a Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Field Applications Engineer, or similar customer-facing technical role, preferably within robotics, autonomous systems, industrial automation, or enterprise hardware/software integration.
  • Strong technical foundation, ideally across robotics concepts
  • Experience designing or supporting real-world deployments of robotics systems/industrial automation in operational environments (e.g., warehouses, manufacturing plants, distribution centers).
  • Proven ability to articulate complex technical solutions in simple, compelling terms to technical and non-technical audiences alike — supported by strong skills in architecture diagrams, systems design, and technical storytelling.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and commercial awareness — ability to design solutions that balance technical rigor with business viability and operational scale.
  • Hands-on experience building and delivering proof-of-concept projects, demos, or pilot programs for cutting-edge technology.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment typical of emerging technologies.
  • A working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, etc)
  • Ability to travel (~40–60%) for client meetings, deployments, and trade shows.
  • Authorization to work in the USA

Location

  • This is a fully remote role with the option to work hybrid if a commutable distance from our Salem, OR, Pittsburgh, PA, or Fremont, CA offices.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This range may change based on geographical location and may be modified in the future.

Anticipated Base Salary Range
$139,000—$217,000 USD

In addition to base pay, our competitive total rewards package consists of the following for full-time employees:
