Job description

Job Summary

The Parenteral Services Clinical RN Specialist provides clinical support to the Parenteral Services team through advanced nursing expertise, education, care coordination, and operational collaboration. This position serves as a clinical resource for Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, Dietitians, Staffing Coordinators, Laboratory Coordinators, and Patient Care Coordinators to promote safe, efficient, and consistent patient care.


This position reports to the Parenteral Services RN Supervisor and does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.  The role partners closely with the Supervisor to support daily clinical operations, assist with complex patient management, improve workflows, and promote best practices for parenteral therapies.


Location: Remote
Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm PST


Duties and Responsibilities


Clinical Support

Serve as a clinical resource for nurses caring for patients receiving TPN and other parenteral therapies.

Assist with development and review of nursing plans of care.

Support clinical decision-making regarding vascular access devices, infusion complications, and laboratory

monitoring.

Review complex clinical situations and provide recommendations to nursing staff.

Assist with patient transitions from hospital to home.

Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews.

Support nursing staff with urgent clinical questions during business hours.

Participate in after-hours support as assigned.

Provide education to nurses.


Operational Support

Partner with Staffing Coordinators to ensure patients receive appropriate clinical support.
Collaborate with Laboratory Coordinators regarding laboratory schedules and escalation of critical issues.
Support Pharmacists and Dietitians in coordinating patient care.
Assist with high-risk Start of Care planning.
Monitor workflow and assist with clinical prioritization.
Support weekend and holiday readiness planning.
Assist with care coordination for patients experiencing clinical complications.
Promote compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Assist with incident reviews and corrective actions.
Review documentation for clinical completeness and consistency.
Identify workflow improvement opportunities.
Assist with implementation of new clinical protocols.


Patient Support

Reinforce patient education regarding:
TPN administration
Line care
Medication storage
Infection prevention
Troubleshooting infusion equipment
Support patient concerns requiring additional nursing guidance.
Assist with continuity of care during therapy changes.


Quality & Compliance

Promote compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Assist with incident reviews and corrective actions.

Review documentation for clinical completeness and consistency.
Identify workflow improvement opportunities.
Assist with implementation of new clinical protocols.
Additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on an as-need basis or determined by
management.
Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, collaboration, and service excellence.


Required Qualifications

Strong knowledge of TPN preparation, administration, equipment use, line complication management, and

infection control practices.
Expertise in TPN laboratory monitoring guidelines and clinical parameters.
Proficient in the use, management, and troubleshooting of Central Lines, Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters
(PICC), and Central Venous Access Devices (Implanted Port).
Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and other digital tools.
Valid driver’s license with ability to travel within assigned territory.

An active and unrestricted nursing license(s) to include California.


Preferred Qualifications

Certification in Nutrition Support (CNSC) is highly desirable.
Experience in home infusion nursing and patient education.
Familiarity with AmeriPharma Pharmacy Specialty Infusion Services guidelines.
