Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others through careers in a variety of fields. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Nurse Clinician 4 position. This position is based out of Stanley Correctional Institution in Stanley, WI (Chippewa County). This is a reannouncement.
Position Summary
The Nurse Clinician 4 position functions independently in an expanded clinical role providing expert direct and indirect nursing care to patients who have complex care needs. Nursing care duties include patient assessments, treatments, assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in providing medical services, management of medications, provision of emergency care, and maintenance of medical records.
The NC4 will also actively assist in orientation, training and development of Health Services staff related to nursing practice, the nursing process, and continuous quality improvement studies (CQI). This position will actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care. The NC4 will also work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team of the institution, other Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities and the community on planning and evaluating care for patients with multiple medical and psychiatric needs. This position will participate in collaborative program planning to meet the health needs of patients at the institution and in the community when they are due to be discharged.
Additionally, this position will assist the Nurse Educators with annual skill competency checkoffs, sharing these documented competencies with the Nursing Supervisors of their assigned facility.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 11-01 with a starting pay of $47.74/hour - $56.10/hour . Pay will be set considering years of nursing licensure. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
Anticipated schedule will be Monday - Fridays working mostly 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM and some 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM shifts, and includes a weekend rotation approximately every 5 weeks.
Healthcare employees in this classification must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.
This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand, sit, and move freely. This role will reposition patients, manipulate fine objects, and lift freely up to 40 lbs. to perform necessary tasks, and may need to occasionally climb stairs. This position is FLSA Exempt.
This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess an active unrestricted non-temporary license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact at time of application, and employees must maintain Registered Nurse licensure during employment.
Employees must maintain certification in BLS by the American Heart Association and training in the use of the AED and have the ability to perform BLS and/or first aid to prevent loss of life and relieve suffering until appropriate care arrives.
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience developing and refining a patient plan of care utilizing continuous patient assessment and evaluation of current treatment plan results.
  • Experience coordinating chronic disease management including: patient education, care planning, medication monitoring, and nursing and ACP follow-up care.
  • Experience collaborating with supervisors regarding general unit management.

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience evaluating care provided by nursing staff and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Experience identifying and meeting learning needs of complex chronic disease patients and other nursing staff related to delivering high quality nursing care.
  • Experience developing and participating in on-going quality improvement activities.
