Clinical Documentation Specialist – Remote

Pay: $40–$43/hour
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week
Location: 100% Remote – Nationwide
Contract: 13-Week Temp-to-Perm
Start: Upon clearance

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) to perform inpatient clinical documentation reviews in an acute-care hospital environment. This is a fully remote opportunity with potential for permanent placement.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of inpatient Clinical Documentation Specialist experience in an acute-care hospital required
  • Direct inpatient CDI experience required; coding experience alone does not qualify
  • Outpatient-only CDI experience does not qualify
  • Active CCS, CDIP, or CCDS certification required at submission
  • Strong knowledge of clinical criteria, clinical validation, ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRGs, MCC/CCs, SOI/ROM, and compliant provider queries
  • Experience identifying documentation opportunities and creating clear, non-leading provider queries
  • Ability to independently manage productivity and quality expectations in a remote environment
  • Optum CAC experience preferred
  • RN/nursing background is not required

Schedule

  • Initial training: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM ET for approximately 1–2 weeks
  • After training: Flexible schedule between 6:00 AM–6:00 PM ET
  • Some weekend scheduling may be available
  • Expected productivity: approximately 15–16 chart reviews per day

Responsibilities

  • Conduct concurrent inpatient chart reviews
  • Identify documentation gaps, inconsistencies, and clinical validation opportunities
  • Develop and submit compliant provider queries
  • Review diagnoses, procedures, DRG impact, MCC/CC capture, SOI/ROM, quality, and reimbursement
  • Collaborate with providers, Coding, Quality, Revenue Cycle, and other healthcare teams
  • Support CDI initiatives, audits, denial prevention, and documentation education
