Energizer is seeking a highly motivated Counsel, Global Ethics & Compliance to join the Legal Department, reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Global Ethics & Compliance. Specific Accountabilities
This role will provide legal and strategic support for Energizer's global ethics and compliance program. This role combines legal and business expertise to ensure compliance with U.S. and international regulations and promote ethical practices across the organization.
The attorney will collaborate with colleagues at all levels globally, identifying, assessing, and mitigating compliance risks, while delivering practical legal advice that aligns with business objectives and goals. This position requires a professional capable of resolving complex compliance issues, driving our culture and ethical initiatives, and contributing to the company's success through proactive risk management and actionable solutions.
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Supporting day-to-day management of the company's global ethics and compliance program
  • Helping to coordinate governance structure, policies, procedures, and processes related to business ethics and legal compliance, including Energizer's Code of Conduct and Supplier Code of Conduct
  • Identifying emerging legal and compliance risks with potential to impact Energizer and working with cross functional teams to facilitate risk mitigation through policy development, process improvement, and education
  • Overseeing investigations, reporting and resolution of compliance issues through Energizer's HelpLine; as part of that, assist with updating investigation best practices, reporting and remediation protocols, as well as related record-keeping
  • Partnering with relevant business colleagues to ensure appropriate risk oversight of relationships with third parties, such as customers, suppliers, and intermediaries
  • Coordinating consistent legal support to Energizer's social compliance initiatives, including advising on regulatory requirements and emerging issues surrounding supply chain compliance and due diligence
  • Leading ethics and compliance training initiatives, outreach and internal engagement campaigns
  • Advising on diverse compliance topics and policies, such as anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, economic and trade sanctions, fair competition, modern slavery, and whistleblowing
  • Prepare reports on compliance risk assessments, key issues, and program effectiveness
  • Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned

What we are looking for
Required Skills and Experience
  • Juris Doctorate from a U.S. accredited law school with active Bar standing in the U.S.
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience at a large law firm and/or publicly traded company, including experience working on complex, cross-border compliance issues and internal investigations
  • Knowledgeable in areas of law related to ethics and compliance, such as anti-corruption, trade sanctions, and whistleblowing
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable advice for the business
  • Proven ability to maintain discretion and/or confidentiality
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing across diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to build positive relationships with senior management and other members of the legal team and to influence outcomes positively
  • Global mindset and ability to work virtually with business colleagues across the globe
  • Demonstrates ability to produce high-quality work in a timely fashion in a fast-paced work environment
  • High degree of initiative requiring little or no supervision, great organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize assignments, solve problems, and meet deadlines

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Compliance certification, e.g., CCEP or equivalent, a plus

Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
