The PEO Risk Management Specialist provides occupational risk assessment, safety consulting, and risk management services in support of Key Risk's Professional Employer Organization (PEO) program. This role partners closely with PEO clients, brokers, underwriting, claims, and service teams to identify, evaluate, and mitigate workplace risks while supporting client retention, profitability, and growth.

The Specialist serves as a trusted advisor to PEO clients and works collaboratively to implement effective safety and workers' compensation management strategies. Through data analysis, client consultation, training, and proactive service planning, this individual helps improve workplace safety performance, reduce claim frequency and severity, and support sustainable underwriting results.

  • Conduct occupational risk assessments and evaluate workplace exposures across diverse industries and client operations.
  • Identify safety, regulatory, and workers' compensation risk factors impacting PEO clients.
  • Develop and implement safety improvement plans designed to reduce injuries and improve client performance.
  • Assist clients in establishing effective safety committees, policies, procedures, and employee training programs.
  • Monitor client progress toward safety and risk management objectives and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support development and implementation of return-to-work and transitional duty programs.

oPEO Underwriting Support

  • Partner with underwriting during prospect evaluation, onboarding, renewal, and retention activities.
  • Evaluate prospective clients and provide risk management recommendations that support underwriting decisions.
  • Participate in pre-bind and renewal discussions to identify opportunities and concerns related to workplace risk.
  • Assist in evaluating loss trends, claim drivers, and operational changes that may affect account performance.

oClient Service and Account Management

  • Serve as the primary risk management liaison for assigned PEO clients.
  • Conduct client onboarding activities, including orientation, safety program review, and service plan development.
  • Collaborate with PEO service teams, claims professionals, and underwriting partners to deliver coordinated client solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with client leadership, HR teams, safety personnel, and agency partners.
  • Maintain accurate records of client contacts, recommendations, and service activities.

oTraining and Education

  • Deliver virtual and onsite training programs focused on workplace safety, injury prevention, regulatory compliance, and workers' compensation best practices.
  • Facilitate new client orientation and ongoing educational sessions.
  • Develop and distribute educational resources and risk management communications.

oData Analytics and Program Performance

  • Analyze loss runs, claim trends, and operational data to identify opportunities for risk improvement.
  • Utilize internal reporting tools and predictive insights to prioritize service activities.
  • Measure effectiveness of safety initiatives and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare client-facing reports, presentations, and performance reviews.

oCompliance and Regulatory Support

  • Monitor and communicate changes in OSHA, state, and industry safety regulations.
  • Support clients in understanding regulatory requirements and implementing compliant programs.
  • Assist with compliance-related initiatives and internal reporting requirements.
  • Escalate significant exposures and emerging risks to management as appropriate.

  • BA/BS Degree
  • Experience in workers' compensation, loss control, risk management, occupational safety, insurance, or PEO operations.
  • Experience consulting with employers across multiple industries preferred.
  • Experience supporting PEO, staffing, or alternative workers' compensation programs preferred.
  • Strong understanding of workers' compensation principles and cost drivers.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
  • Knowledge of PEO operations and co-employment relationships preferred.
  • Ability to analyze loss data and identify risk trends.
  • Strong presentation, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Interest in leveraging AI and technology to enhance risk management processes.
