The Risk Control Consulting Director-Healthcare serves as an enterprise leader responsible for advancing risk control strategy, technical excellence and underwriting support across Allied Healthcare and Life Science business segments. This individual contributor is responsible for the assessment, evaluation, and delivery of complex risk control consulting services addressing the most challenging clinical, operational, regulatory, professional liability, and product liability exposures. This role will also provide a centralized source of expertise for Life Sciences, particularly in the area of product liability involving pharmaceutical manufacturers, biotechnology firms, medical device companies, and other life sciences organizations.

Job Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Performs onsite or virtual risk evaluation and consultative risk improvement services on the most complex and/or sophisticated accounts.
Controls loss exposure and costs and ensures underwriting profit through risk determination for underwriting.
Assesses customer's program needs and develops and executes a customized strategy and supporting implementation plan. Manages the delivery of direct evaluative and consultative services.
Partners with underwriting and other areas to provide information for risk evaluation and assessment on the most complex and/or sophisticated risks.
Participates with senior management in the development and implementation of risk control policy, marketing and business strategy.
Develops and maintains business relationships with internal and external business partners.
Provides account coordination of risk control services for multinational and global insured accounts.
Identifies opportunities for new products and services.
Provides expertise in specialized area such as allied healthcare, facilities and providers.
Mentors less experienced risk control staff and other functional areas. May Participates in the development and presentation of education and training programs.
Stays up to date on risk control issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May represent the company in industry trade groups.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. The highest level of technical and industry specific expertise, risk control evaluation and assessment skills and knowledge of insurance and risk control principles, practices and procedures.
2. Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
4. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
5. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
6. Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
8. Ability and willingness to travel.
9. Demonstrated thought leadership, technical writing, and public speaking capabilities, with industry presentation experience highly desirable.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences, Risk Management, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare risk management, professional liability, life sciences quality systems, medical device safety, pharmaceutical operations, insurance risk control or related disciplines.
  • Professional designations such as RN, PharmD, MPH, ARM, CPCU, CPHRM, CPHQ, RAPS, RAC, ASQ, CQA, or equivalent.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
