Join Metro's Office of Risk, Readiness, & Resilience (R3) as a Risk Manager and play a central role in in strengthening how Metro identifies, evaluates, manages, and responds to risk across the organization. In this position, you'll have the opportunity to lead a high-impact, agency-wide program, focused on enterprise risk management, insurance and claims administration, occupational health and safety oversight, and risk-informed decision-making.
Working across departments and with external partners, the Risk Manager helps strengthen risk management practices, improve consistency, and support informed decision-making across the organization. Success in this role requires building strong relationships with departments, facilities, and operational staff to understand risks, support problem-solving, and advance a more coordinated and mature approach to risk management across Metro. This role combines program leadership, strategic planning, consultation, and staff supervision to support organizational resilience and continuous improvement.
As the Risk Manager you will:
  • Lead Metro's risk management program, including enterprise risk management, insurance and claims administration, and occupational health and safety oversight.
  • Manage program budgets, contracts, work plans, and operational priorities.
  • Supervise risk management staff and provide coaching, direction, and performance management.
  • Build partnerships with departments, facilities, and operational staff to improve risk awareness, support problem-solving, strengthen risk management practices, and advance organizational resilience.
  • Oversee insurance, claims, and risk financing activities in coordination with insurers, brokers, legal counsel, and departments.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and support to departments on risk identification, mitigation, insurance, and loss prevention strategies.
  • Develop and implement risk management policies, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate enterprise risk management activities and help develop Metro's enterprise approach to identifying, assessing, and managing risk.
  • Lead risk assessments, incident trend analysis, and loss prevention initiatives.

Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in the assigned program area or related field (examples could be Risk Management, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership)
  • Three (3) years leading or supervising people, and
  • Two (2) years project management experience in a similar role or area of responsibility, or
  • Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

Required:
  • Be able to successfully complete a background check at time of hire.

Work Environment and schedule:
  • This position will be required to work primarily on-site/in- person.
  • Regular hours are Monday - Friday, with occasional evening, weekend, or holidays, as needs arise.
  • While eligible for hybrid telework, successful performance in this role requires regular on-site engagement across Metro facilities and operations to build relationships, understand operational risks, and support effective risk management practices. Limited telework will be available and will be scheduled in in accordance with business needs.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATON
The full-salary range for this position is step 1: $122,301.12 to step 6: $156,091.17 annually. However, unless a candidate's qualifications justify, based on the requirements and Metro's internal equity review process, the appointment will likely be made between step 1: $122,301.12 to the equity range step 3: $134,836.99 annually.
This position is not eligible for overtime and is not represented by a union. It is classified as Manager I.
