Job description


The Analytics Engineer leads technical work and projects which enable Home Chef to make more and better data-driven decisions. With the broader team, the engineer is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the end-to-end data "value chain." This encompasses capturing the correct data, designing a data model that fits the needs of our data consumers, and building analytics on top of that data. 

The Level 2 Analytics Engineer will align with a certain business department to understand the needs of that department. This role is considered a subject matter expert for that department within the analytics team. The Level 2 Analytics Engineer independently leads much of the work for that department and provides guidance to others who pick up that work as well.

Detailed Responsibilities

Technical: 

  • Convert business requests to code and frameworks
  • Build ingestion, cleaning, and transformation jobs to create a useful integrated data warehouse
  • Regularly monitor and maintain the performance of these jobs
  • Create processes to ensure data quality and cleanliness throughout the pipeline
  • Utilize business intelligence tools (such as Looker) to provide business teams with more self-serve reporting and visualization
  • Support non-technical teams with more advanced analytics as necessary
  • Productionalize manual data processes as necessary

  • Engage with stakeholders to truly understand the needs of the departments
  • Ensure business teams can effectively utilize the data model and are aware of trade-offs, gotchas, etc.
  • Communicate progress and gather feedback on projects with the business

Qualifications

  • Completion of a four-year degree program in a related field
  • Multiple years of experience with data modeling and database performance
  • Ability to build complex data transformations and understanding to discern when that is needed
  • Can effectively problem-solve and get to the root cause when troubleshooting issues
  • Ability to influence business stakeholders to help drive more data-driven decision making throughout the company
  • Highly organized both in terms of work management and written code
  • Highly proficient in SQL
  • Skilled in Python
  • Openness to utilize AI tools in day-to-day work. Some experience in the area preferred.
