Job Description
Structural Engineer is responsible for the structural analysis, design, and evaluation of wireless telecommunications infrastructure, including towers, rooftops, water tanks, utility structures, and other support systems. This role ensures that all structures meet applicable building codes, industry standards, and client requirements while supporting the deployment of wireless equipment. The Structural Engineer collaborates closely with project managers, construction teams, and wireless carriers to deliver accurate, cost-effective, and timely engineering solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analyses of existing and proposed wireless telecommunications structures, including self-support towers, guyed towers, monopoles, rooftops, and other mounting structures.
  • Design structural modifications and reinforcement solutions to accommodate new antennas, remote radio units (RRUs), mounts, and ancillary equipment.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, structural reports, and construction drawings in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Review tower mapping, inspection reports, and field data to determine structural capacity and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI/TIA-222 standards, International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7, local building codes, and client-specific design criteria.
  • Coordinate with CAD designers and drafters to produce accurate engineering drawings and fabrication details.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and fabrication documents for structural accuracy.
  • Support permitting activities by providing sealed engineering documents and responding to comments from permitting authorities.
  • Conduct structural assessments following site inspections and recommend repairs or upgrades when necessary.
  • Collaborate with project managers, RF engineers, A&E teams, construction personnel, and clients throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance during construction and assist in resolving field engineering issues.
  • Maintain organized project documentation while ensuring engineering quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Stay current with evolving telecommunications technologies, structural engineering practices, and applicable industry standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a specified timeframe
  • 4+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably within the wireless telecommunications industry.
  • Experience performing structural analysis using industry software such as RISA-3D, TNXTower, MathCAD, O-Calc or similar structural analysis software.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI/TIA-222, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC Steel Manual, and ACI standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and aluminum structural systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports and interact with clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in one or more U.S. states.
  • Experience with carrier projects for major wireless providers.
  • Experience with mount design, foundation analysis, and rooftop structural evaluations.
  • Familiarity with site grading / retaining wall design.
