What is a Remote Retail Management job?

A Remote Retail Management job involves overseeing retail operations, sales, and team performance from a remote location. Responsibilities may include inventory management, staff supervision, customer service, and sales strategy implementation. Managers use digital tools to monitor performance, communicate with teams, and optimize processes. This role requires strong leadership, organization, and adaptability to ensure efficiency without being physically present in a store.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Retail Management position, and why are they important?

To excel in Remote Retail Management, you need strong retail operations expertise, leadership experience, and typically a bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field. Familiarity with retail management systems, inventory software, and virtual collaboration platforms is essential for effective oversight. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills distinguish top performers in a remote setting. Mastering these skills ensures managers can efficiently lead dispersed teams, maintain smooth operations, and drive sales from a distance.

What are some typical challenges faced in a remote retail management role and how can they be addressed?

In remote retail management, one common challenge is maintaining effective communication and oversight across geographically dispersed store teams. Managers rely heavily on digital tools for performance monitoring, training, and problem resolution, which can sometimes make team cohesion and real-time support more difficult. Addressing these challenges involves establishing clear communication protocols, leveraging collaborative technologies, and scheduling regular virtual check-ins with store staff. Proactive engagement and transparent leadership help ensure team alignment and effective operations, even when working from a distance.

Job description

Retail Project Manager

The Retail Project Manager is a high-impact driver in the fast expansion and maintenance of Frankies Bikinis' physical retail fleet across the US. This role owns the full lifecycle of store development—from site feasibility and design to construction completion, grand opening, and ongoing facilities management for multiple locations simultaneously across various time zones. Reporting to the Director of Retail, you will bridge the gap between creative vision and operational reality.

Primary Job Responsibilities

National Store Development & Scaling

  • Multi-Site Project Ownership: Develop and manage master project schedules and budgets for up to 5 simultaneous buildouts across the country.
  • National Expansion Playbook: Build and refine a "Retail Opening Playbook" that accounts for regional variances in construction, labor markets, and logistics to ensure repeatable, high-speed launches.
  • Remote Site Feasibility: Partner with leadership to evaluate potential sites nationwide, performing preliminary assessments of local infrastructure and tenant improvement (TI) allowances.

Design & Aesthetic Integrity

  • Creative Translation: Collaborate with the Visual Design Director and Store Designer to ensure the "Malibu/Venice" aesthetic translates authentically into diverse markets like Miami, New York, or Dallas.
  • Value Engineering: Identify cost-saving opportunities on materials and fixtures to reduce both costs and lead times.
  • Procurement: Work with the Visual Design Director and Store Designer on sourcing and lead logistics for custom FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) and proprietary props.

National Construction & Compliance

  • Regional Vendor Management: Source, vet, and manage a national network of General Contractors and subcontractors; hold all parties accountable to the Frankies Bikinis "Gold Standard" regardless of location.
  • Broad Regulatory Knowledge: Navigate diverse state and local building codes, including energy compliance (e.g., California Title 24, NY Stretch Code) and ADA requirements across different jurisdictions.
  • Permit Management: Oversee the submittal and approval process for all building, signage, and operating permits in varying municipalities.

Fleet Facilities & Maintenance

  • National Maintenance Program: Implement a preventative maintenance program for all stores, ensuring every store remains in "Opening Day" condition.
  • Emergency Response: Build and maintain a database of reliable 24/7 trades for emergency repairs across all active time zones.

Education & Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of Project Management experience in multi-site national retail (boutique, luxury, or high-street experience preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Mastery of project management platforms (SmartSheet, Monday.com, or Procore) and the ability to manage projects remotely.
  • Regulatory Savvy: Proven track record of navigating permitting processes in at least 3 distinct US regions.
  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Architecture or similar is preferred.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 40% to job sites across the US as needed.

Salary & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $110,000 – $130,000 per year. Actual salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, a candidate's related work experience.
  • Health & Wellness: 100% company-paid health insurance.
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with up to 4% company matching.
  • Work-Life Balance: Hybrid work model (Monday–Wednesday in office; Thursday–Friday remote-optional).
  • Perks: Generous product discounts, fun team outings, and a dog-friendly office environment.
