Job description

We are a data-driven company with a collegial atmosphere looking for team members who can do great work for application in the algorithmic trading industry.
NumerixS Quant builds quantitative trading strategies grounded in science and driven by technology. With a team of scientists, mathematicians, and physicists, we design and run systematic trading strategies grounded in rigorous academic research.
We are seeking a Senior Accountant who will be solely responsible for oversight of general accounting and PNL reconciliation. Our ideal candidate is a hands-on, independent accounting professional with hedge fund experience who quickly builds strong working relationships with stakeholders.
This opportunity can be remote or based in an office in Chandler, AZ. If remote, based in Canada or the US (Texas or Arizona).
About you
You've built a career in hedge fund or alternative investment accounting, and you're ready to move into a solo operator role. You're motivated by owning the whole function and taking full accountability for a broad scope of work. You don't need a team around you to feel confident in your work; you're organized enough to run a full accounting function, self-directed enough not to need daily oversight, and ambitious enough that you're looking for more responsibility. You report to leadership, not to a Controller, and the work reflects it.
What You'll Do
Full ownership of the accounting function, including books, records, and internal controls, maintained in Xero.
  • Own the monthly PNL reconciliation process, confidently identifying and resolving discrepancies to ensure the firm's numbers are accurate and well-supported. If the numbers don't line up, you're the one who digs in, makes the case, and doesn't back down until it's resolved correctly.
  • Review and approve all supplier invoices, with an eye toward cost control and ensuring the firm is never overpaying for expenses, resolving discrepancies if they arise.
  • Manage payroll across the US and Canada using ADP, accurately and on schedule.
  • Ensuring the accounting books, records and related internal controls are appropriate for audit.
  • Own everything that touches money, including managing bank accounts, all ad hoc banking tasks, transfers, and money-related HR tasks.

What You Bring
  • Prior accounting experience, inside a hedge fund or alternative investment fund.
  • Hands-on general ledger ownership, running books independently without oversight.
  • Experience reconciling internal PNL to an external party's calculation.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve discrepancies with confidence, including experience advocating for a position with an external party and supporting it with clear, accurate data.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to maintain productive working relationships even in the context of firm, direct communication.
  • Proficiency or fast ability to ramp on Xero and ADP for both US and Canada payroll.
  • Comfortable being the sole finance person in the building - no backup, no team to lean on.

What We Offer
  • Annual bonus eligibility based on performance
  • Extended healthcare coverage*
  • 401(k)/RRSP matching up to 9% (maximum annual contribution of $13,250)*

*After applicable waiting period
