Remote Python Mechanical Engineering information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Mechanical Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Mechanical Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles, experience with Python programming, and at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. Familiarity with technical tools such as CAD software, finite element analysis (FEA) platforms, and Python libraries like NumPy, SciPy, and Matplotlib is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently are essential soft skills for remote collaboration. These skills and qualifications ensure you can design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems efficiently while contributing effectively from a remote environment.

What is the difference between Remote Python Mechanical Engineering vs Remote Mechanical Design Engineer?

Remote Python Mechanical Engineering involves coding, data analysis, and software development using Python in a mechanical context. In contrast, Remote Mechanical Design Engineers focus on CAD modeling, designing mechanical components, and prototype creation. Both roles require engineering backgrounds but differ in daily tasks and skill sets, catering to different aspects of mechanical engineering projects.

What is a Remote Python Mechanical Engineer?

A Remote Python Mechanical Engineer is a professional who applies principles of mechanical engineering while working remotely, often leveraging the Python programming language to automate tasks, analyze data, develop simulations, or enhance product designs. These engineers may work on projects such as computational modeling, data analysis, or developing scripts for engineering workflows, all from a remote location. The combination of mechanical engineering expertise and Python proficiency allows them to solve complex engineering problems efficiently and collaborate with teams virtually.

How do remote Python Mechanical Engineers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams while working off-site?

Remote Python Mechanical Engineers often work closely with design, simulation, and manufacturing teams using digital collaboration tools. Regular video meetings, shared code repositories, and project management platforms help maintain open communication and ensure alignment on tasks and deadlines. Emphasis is placed on clear documentation and proactive updates to address time zone differences and minimize misunderstandings. This collaborative environment allows engineers to contribute effectively to multidisciplinary projects without being physically present.

Job description

Company: Contour Data Solutions, LLC

Role: DevOps Engineer – Contour Cloud

Location: Remote / Hybrid (USbased preferred)

Department: Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering

Reports To: Head of Engineering / Infrastructure/Cloud

Salary Range: $150K-$200K

Role Overview

Contour Data Solutions is seeking a DevOps Engineer to support and evolve Contour Cloud, our private and hybrid cloud platform, and to work closely with the Cinch Software development team on cloud orchestration and platform automation.

This role sits at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, software development, network engineering, and storage platforms, with a heavy emphasis on Linux-based systems, virtualization, automation, and observability. The ideal candidate is hands-on, infrastructure-first, and comfortable bridging development and operations in a production cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud & Platform Engineering

  • Design, deploy, and maintain Linux-based cloud infrastructure supporting ContourCloud workloads
  • Build and automate cloud deployments, platform services, and infrastructure workflows through scripting and code
  • Support and enhance virtualization platforms, with a primary focus on Xen/XCP-ng; VMware, NSX and vSphere experience
  • Build, deploy, and maintain physical and virtual server platforms

Cinch Software Integration

  • Work daily with Cinch Software to:
    • Enable cloud orchestration and automation
    • Ensure reliable cloud deployments and management workflows
    • Improve integration between software-driven automation and infrastructure reali

DevOps & Automation

  • Collaborate closely with the Cinch Software development team to support:
    • Cloud orchestration
    • Platform integration
    • Deployment automation
    • Infrastructure-as-Code–style workflows
  • Develop and maintain automation using scripting and programming languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Go, etc.)
  • Improve deployment consistency, reliability, and repeatability across environments

Networking & IP Management

  • Work directly with the Network Engineering team on:
    • IP address management (IPAM)
    • Network provisioning and lifecycle
    • Cloud and data center network integration
  • Leverage NetBox for IPAM, DCIM, and infrastructure modeling

Monitoring, Observability & Operations

  • Implement and maintain monitoring and observability platforms including:
    • Zabbix for infrastructure monitoring
    • Grafana for visualization and dashboards
  • Assist in capacity planning, performance tuning, and fault analysis
  • Participate in platform reliability and operational readiness initiatives

Storage & Systems

  • Design, build, and maintain server and storage platforms, including:
    • ZFS-based storage architectures
    • TrueNAS (Core or SCALE) platforms
  • Support data integrity, performance, and scalability requirements across cloud and customer environments

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong Linux systems administration experience (required)
  • Proven experience with:
    • Scripting and automation
    • Infrastructure or platform engineering in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Xen virtualization
    • XCP-ng (preferred)
    • VMware NSX & vSphere
  • Experience working with:
    • NetBox (IPAM / DCIM)
    • Zabbix
    • Grafana
  • Experience building and supporting:
    • Physical servers
    • Virtual infrastructure
    • ZFS-based storage platforms

    •

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in private cloud or MSP environments
  • Familiarity with cloud orchestration and self-service platform design
  • Understanding of DevOps best practices across infrastructure and application lifecycles
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Experience supporting multi-tenant or customer-facing platforms
  •

How This Role Is Different

  • Not a pure CI/CD or app DevOps role
  • Not isolated infrastructure engineering
  • This is a platform DevOps role, tightly coupled to:
    • Product-driven cloud orchestration (Cinch)
    • Real production infrastructure
    • Networking, storage, and observability
    •

Why Contour Cloud?
