What is a remote prosthodontist?

A remote prosthodontist is a dental specialist who provides consultation, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients needing restorative dental work—such as dentures, crowns, bridges, and implants—using telehealth technologies. Rather than seeing patients in person, remote prosthodontists use video conferencing, digital imaging, and online communication to collaborate with patients and local dentists. This allows patients in underserved or rural areas to access specialized prosthodontic expertise without traveling long distances. Remote prosthodontists may also review digital scans and provide detailed instructions for local dental teams to carry out the treatment. This approach expands access to high-quality dental care and supports comprehensive treatment planning.
