Remote Propulsion Test Engineer information

What does a remote propulsion test engineer do?

A Remote Propulsion Test Engineer is responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing tests on propulsion systems, such as rocket engines or jet engines, while working remotely. Their duties include developing test plans, monitoring test data in real-time, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with teams to improve engine performance. They often use specialized software and remote instrumentation to conduct and oversee these tests, ensuring safety and reliability standards are met. This role is vital in industries like aerospace, where propulsion system validation is crucial for mission success.

How does a remote propulsion test engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a testing project?

As a Remote Propulsion Test Engineer, you will regularly collaborate with design, manufacturing, and data analysis teams to ensure test objectives are met and results are accurately interpreted. Communication is often facilitated through video conferences, shared digital platforms, and detailed documentation. You'll be expected to coordinate test schedules, share real-time data, and troubleshoot issues alongside other engineers and project managers, even when working from different locations. This collaborative approach ensures that propulsion systems are tested efficiently and meet all performance and safety standards, despite the remote work setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote propulsion test engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Propulsion Test Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with experience in propulsion systems and test methodologies. Familiarity with data acquisition systems, control software (such as LabVIEW or MATLAB), and relevant safety certifications is typically required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in remote and collaborative environments. These competencies ensure the accurate, safe, and efficient execution of propulsion tests, which are critical for product development and mission success.

What is the difference between Remote Propulsion Test Engineer vs Remote Propulsion Systems Engineer?

AspectRemote Propulsion Test Engineer

The Remote Propulsion Test Engineer focuses on testing and validating propulsion systems through hands-on testing, data analysis, and performance evaluation. They typically work in lab or test site environments, conducting experiments to ensure propulsion components meet specifications. Their role emphasizes practical testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

In contrast, a Remote Propulsion Systems Engineer designs, develops, and integrates propulsion systems, often involving simulation, system architecture, and engineering analysis. They work on system-level development rather than testing individual components. Both roles require engineering credentials and industry experience, but the Test Engineer is more focused on validation and testing activities, while the Systems Engineer handles design and integration.

As a (Senior) Software Engineer, you'll build and maintain the tools and automation that support advanced malware analysis and threat detection technologies.
You'll work across software development, infrastructure, automation, and system administration in a highly collaborative technical environment.
The role gives you ownership of tools, projects, and product components from requirements through implementation and ongoing operation.
You'll develop reliable services and internal solutions while ensuring the stability, availability, and quality of the broader development landscape.
Working with modern technologies across Python, AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and databases, you'll solve complex technical challenges with tangible impact.
You'll collaborate closely with stakeholders and teammates to identify needs, clarify requirements, and continuously improve engineering processes.
This is an opportunity to contribute to cybersecurity technology in a growing international environment while having substantial ownership over your work.

Accountabilities:
  • Take ownership of tools, projects, and product components within the Tools & Automation environment.
  • Develop new software tools and solutions based on stakeholder requirements and operational needs.
  • Gather, clarify, and challenge requirements with stakeholders when information is incomplete or additional context is needed.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reliable server applications, microservices, APIs, and supporting client applications.
  • Build solutions with a strong focus on code quality, maintainability, testing, and long-term reliability.
  • Administer machines and infrastructure supporting development and automation services.
  • Ensure the continuous availability and stability of services, including components hosted on Amazon AWS.
  • Work with CI/CD pipelines and automation to support efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Contribute to infrastructure automation and configuration management using tools such as Ansible and Kubernetes.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, infrastructure specialists, and other stakeholders to drive continuous improvements across the development and infrastructure landscape.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional Python development experience.
  • Strong practical knowledge of common Python frameworks and libraries such as Pika, Boto3, SQLAlchemy, Django, or FastAPI.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices and code quality standards, including PEP 8 and automated linters.
  • Hands-on experience with test-driven development and Pytest.
  • Experience designing and working with REST APIs, including developing server-side applications, microservices, and clients.
  • Practical experience with Ansible, PostgreSQL, and CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins or Bamboo.
  • Experience working with and administering common Amazon AWS services and components.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized or distributed environments.
  • RabbitMQ experience is an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues effectively.
  • Fast-learning mindset and the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar technologies and systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively as part of a technical team.
  • High level of ownership, reliability, and attention to code quality and operational stability.
Benefits:
  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • Remote-first opportunity available across Europe, with the option to work from Bochum, Germany.
  • Opportunity to work on innovative cybersecurity technology focused on malware analysis and threat detection.
  • High degree of ownership over tools, projects, and technical solutions.
  • Collaborative environment alongside experienced technical and cybersecurity specialists.
  • Opportunity to work with modern technologies including Python, AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, microservices, and automation.
  • International working environment within a growing technology organization.
  • Opportunity to make a tangible contribution to products designed to help protect organizations and data against cyber threats.
  • Strong scope for continuous learning, technical development, and professional growth.
