What is a remote property manager?

A remote property manager is a professional who oversees and manages real estate properties from a location other than the property itself, often working from home or a central office. Their responsibilities typically include coordinating maintenance and repairs, handling tenant communications, processing rent payments, and ensuring compliance with property regulations. They use digital tools and platforms to perform their duties efficiently without being physically present at the property. This role is especially common for managing multiple properties or properties located in different regions.

How does a remote property manager effectively handle maintenance issues without being on-site?

As a Remote Property Manager, handling maintenance issues requires strong communication and reliable local partnerships. You’ll typically coordinate with trusted vendors or contractors in the property's area, leveraging digital tools to receive photos, updates, and invoices. Clear protocols and responsive communication with both tenants and service providers are essential for timely resolutions. Building a network of reliable local contacts and using property management software can streamline the entire process, ensuring issues are addressed efficiently even from a distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote property manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Property Manager, you need a solid understanding of property management practices, leasing regulations, and financial oversight, usually supported by relevant experience or a real estate/property management certification. Familiarity with property management software (such as AppFolio or Buildium), virtual communication tools, and digital document management systems is essential. Outstanding organizational skills, proactive communication, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills for managing tenants and coordinating with contractors remotely. These skills and qualities are important to ensure efficient operations, tenant satisfaction, and effective oversight of properties from a distance.

Both roles are essential in the rental process but differ in scope and daily responsibilities.

What does a remote property manager do?

As a remote property manager, you handle the day-to-day management of a rental property from a remote or virtual location. Your responsibilities typically include explaining lease terms to a new tenant, coordinating any maintenance of the buildings and grounds, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as necessary. You also oversee tax requirements as necessary. You are essentially a landlord with all of the associated duties but are home-based. You may work with a real estate agent to find renters for a site, or you have more than one client and manage several properties.

Job description

Do You Turn Conversations Into Long-Term Business Relationships? Do You Enjoy Building Sales Pipelines in a New Market?

Join ALC, a fast-growing, fully remote CFO Advisory, Outsourced Accounting, and HR Services firm. We are on a mission to 'WOW professionally and CARE personally' by providing expert guidance, people centric service, and custom solutions. We believe the combination of unmatched strategic thinking and experience, coupled with a caring human touch, is the key to success and allows us to bring clarity, confidence, and peace of mind to the growing organizations and business leaders we serve.

We're Seeking:

  • Relationship-driven business development professionals who thrive on networking and community engagement.
  • Self-motivated hunters who are energized by building a pipeline from scratch.
  • People who value relationships and their role as a trusted advisor
  • Strong communicators looking to represent a growing brand within their local business community.

Who We Are:

We are a passionate team serving privately held, entrepreneurial businesses across the U.S. Our domains span property management, real estate, data management, professional services, non-profits, and more.

Core Values We Live By:

  • Speak Your Truth
  • Get Sh*t Done
  • Team Up
  • Be Curious
  • Choose Joy

As a Market Development Manager, you'll be ALC's ambassador within an assigned geographic market - building the firm's presence, reputation, and referral ecosystem through strategic networking, chamber and community engagement, and referral partner development. This role begins as a pure hunting position focused on market development and opportunity creation. As you demonstrate proficiency, you'll be trained to take on discovery calls, scoping engagements, and proposal development - eventually managing opportunities through the full sales cycle. Reporting to the Director of Revenue Operations & Business Development, you'll establish trusted relationships that expand ALC's visibility, credibility, and long-term pipeline.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years of experience in business development, sales, or networking-based relationship building.
  • A proven track record of building and growing a professional network, ideally within a local or regional business community.
  • Comfort and energy around consistent, high-volume relationship-building activity - networking events, chamber functions, community involvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; you build rapport and trust quickly.
  • Self-motivated and activity-driven; you thrive being measured against clear production targets.
  • Experience in professional services, accounting, finance, or a related B2B environment a plus.
  • An existing network or ties within ALC's target market(s) a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as ALC's primary representative within an assigned geographic market, building long-term visibility, credibility, and relationships that position ALC as a trusted accounting, finance, and HR partner.
  • Build, expand, and maintain an active, high-value network of contacts, connectors, and centers of influence that consistently generates qualified opportunities.
  • Represent ALC at chamber events, industry associations, conferences, and community functions; pursue committee participation, leadership opportunities, and speaking engagements.
  • Identify, build, and manage a strategic referral ecosystem of attorneys, bankers, wealth advisors, consultants, private equity professionals, insurance advisors, payroll providers, technology partners, and other trusted advisors.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to leadership on market trends, competitor activity, pricing observations, and prospective client needs.
  • Convert networking and referral activity into qualified opportunities, transitioning them to the Director with complete prospect context - progressively taking on discovery, scoping, proposal development, and client acquisition as proficiency grows.
  • Log networking activity, contacts, and referral relationships in the CRM consistently and accurately.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Has extremely strong relationship-building instincts and genuinely enjoys the hustle of networking
  • Is persistent, professional, and consistent in daily prospecting and outreach activity
  • Builds authentic, trust-based relationships that reflect ALC's culture and values
  • Is comfortable being measured against clear production and activity targets
  • Takes ownership of opportunities and follows them through to a well-qualified handoff
  • Is disciplined about CRM and activity logging
  • Has a can-do attitude coupled with a love of teamwork and collaboration

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in business development, sales, or networking-based relationship building
  • Proven track record of building and growing a professional network
  • Experience in professional services, accounting, finance, or a related B2B environment a plus
  • Existing network or ties within ALC's target market(s) a plus

Benefits

  • Flexibility to build your day around networking events and community engagements, backed by a "Work Wherever" remote-first team
  • Comprehensive benefits including health and dental insurance
  • Flexible vacation and a company close at the end of the year!
  • 401k match
  • Uncapped earning potential - base salary plus commission that grows as you build your book of business
  • Fun, friendly, and collaborative culture that thrives on individual and team accountability

Targeted base range for this role is $75,000 - $90,000 annually + commission.

How We Determine What We Pay
As a fully remote employer, ALC determines pay for positions using national and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.

For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant's level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.

a la C.A.R.T.E. Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with ALC is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.

All offers of employment at ALC are contingent upon clear results of a thorough background check and your ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the US.
