Job Overview

The Associate, Engineering Project Management manages and oversees all aspects of execution for Macy’s Supply Chain material handling and construction capital projects.

This is a remote role and can be based anywhere in the US. Must have conveyor and automation experience (Installation design, and project management of that installation). This is not an entry level role and we require 75% travel. 

What You Will Do

  • Serve as project owner and Macy’s lead for large-scale capital material handling equipment and warehouse projects exceeding $100 million. Coordinate efforts across vendors, Macy’s Supply Chain Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Macy’s Technology.
  • Oversee all aspects of project management, including cost control, engineering deliverables, construction scheduling, testing, go-live activities, turnover, quality assurance, and closeout.
  • Collaborate with site managers to maintain project timelines, ensure smooth turnover to operations, and complete project closeout activities.
  • Partner with Program Managers, Operations & Facilities, Maintenance, and cross-functional teams to plan and drive engineering execution.
  • Provide clear direction and issue resolution for contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, identifying dependencies and critical path tasks.
  • Partner with vendors and stakeholders to compress timelines and proactively address delays through mitigation planning.
  • Lead project coordination meetings and maintain consistent communication with all team members to ensure alignment on deliverables and expectations.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor progress, assess work quality, and resolve on-site issues.
  • Facilitate and lead budget creation, work breakdown structures, cost estimates, prioritization, and integration planning with senior leadership and program managers.
  • Resolve project challenges and ensure accountability for results.
  • Provide schedule guidance and duration estimates for future projects.
  • Review blueprints and construction documents to evaluate project status, identify issues, and drive timely resolution.
  • Identify and address equipment errors, collaborating with operations teams for timely resolution.
  • Enforce all Macy’s safety and construction protocols to achieve zero accidents, zero unplanned operational disruptions, and zero environmental incidents.
  • Work with Procurement to secure competitive pricing through bidding and support vendor selection.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering on project scope, technical requirements, cost estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Partner with Capital Administration, Legal, and Risk teams to issue vendor contracts and prepare internal approval documents as required.
  • Maintain project budget tracking and identify cost-saving opportunities in collaboration with Procurement and vendor partners.
  • Track and resolve punch list items to ensure project completion and quality standards are met.
  • Maintain accurate records, forecasts, and schedules for all assigned projects, ensuring completeness and accuracy of vendor proposals before contract issuance.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. 
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Project Management & Execution: Ability to lead large-scale capital projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment across engineering, operations, procurement, and technology teams.

Construction & Engineering Oversight: Strong understanding of warehouse material handling systems, blueprints, and construction processes to ensure design accuracy, operational efficiency, and timely project delivery.

Financial & Budget Management: Skilled in managing multimillion-dollar project budgets, controlling costs, and identifying opportunities for savings through vendor negotiations and process optimization.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong partnership skills; able to work effectively with program managers, operations, maintenance, procurement, legal, and vendors to drive alignment and resolve issues quickly.

Vendor & Contract Management: Proficient in overseeing vendor bidding, selection, and contract administration in collaboration with Procurement, Legal, and Risk teams to ensure compliance and cost-effectiveness.

Analytical Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes, assess risks, and implement practical, data-driven solutions.

Technical Proficiency: Experienced in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables), Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and project management software; knowledge of Material Handling Systems, PLCs, and ladder logic preferred.

Communication & Leadership: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present information clearly, influence stakeholders, and lead cross-functional teams effectively.

Detail Orientation & Quality Control: Highly organized and detail-oriented; ensures accuracy in project documentation, manages punch lists, and maintains quality standards throughout execution.

Sense of Urgency & Initiative: Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and the ability to prioritize and drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Who You Are

  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.
  • Able to travel 75%.
