They help ensure that projects stay on budget and on schedule by maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and coordinating communication between team members. Their work often involves using project management software, handling data analysis, and assisting with resource allocation, all while working off-site. This role is vital in organizations that manage multiple projects and need efficient oversight without requiring staff to be physically present.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote project controls assistant, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Project Controls Assistant, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with project management principles, often supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with project management software (such as MS Project or Primavera), spreadsheets, and reporting tools is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with remote teams and adapt to changing project demands. Job description

50% remote. On site about 50% of the time and locations can change in the US over time. Massively growing organization with a great culture.

Chris Preble from Robert Half is looking for an experienced Senior P6 Scheduler & Project Controls Lead to oversee program scheduling and project controls for a complex delivery environment for his client. This role will drive the development of a fully integrated master schedule, bringing together design, procurement, infrastructure, construction, commissioning, and deployment activities into one coordinated program. The successful candidate will provide independent schedule analysis, strengthen governance standards, and deliver clear insight into progress, risks, and milestone confidence.

Responsibilities:

• Build and manage the integrated master schedule in Primavera P6, ensuring all major project phases are accurately connected and maintained.

• Combine activities across design, permitting, procurement, power systems, construction, fit-out, energization, commissioning, and client deployment into a unified delivery plan.

• Take ownership of schedule logic, work breakdown structure, calendars, baselines, constraints, float management, and critical path analysis.

• Define scheduling standards, coding structures, and governance practices that support consistent project controls across the program.

• Review and challenge schedules submitted by contractors, consultants, suppliers, and delivery partners to confirm accuracy and alignment.

• Assess logic links, activity durations, interfaces, and dependencies to ensure external schedules are reliable before incorporation into the master plan.

• Lead recurring schedule updates, progress tracking sessions, and status reviews to maintain visibility into current performance.

• Measure actual progress against baseline commitments and prepare variance reporting, trend analysis, and milestone forecasting.

• Identify developing schedule risks, evaluate recovery options, and recommend acceleration or mitigation strategies to protect key dates.

• Create near-term and mid-range look-ahead schedules while incorporating long-lead procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and on-site delivery requirements.

Data center experience is strongly preferred.

• Advanced experience using Primavera P6 to develop, maintain, and analyze complex integrated project schedules.

• Strong background in project controls, schedule governance, baseline management, and critical path methodology.

• Proven ability to evaluate third-party schedules and independently validate logic, sequencing, and forecast reliability.

• Experience supporting large-scale programs involving construction, infrastructure, procurement, commissioning, and operational readiness.

• Solid understanding of progress measurement, variance analysis, trend reporting, and schedule risk identification.

• Ability to communicate schedule impacts, milestone outlook, and recovery strategies clearly to stakeholders and leadership.

• Knowledge of operations management, logistics coordination, purchasing processes, and warehouse-related planning activities.
