Job Summary/Purpose:

Accounting Processes and Controls (AP&C) group performs a variety of key accounting functions. AP&C is responsible for ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness of transactions interfacing to General Ledger from various source systems, including PeopleSoft (PS) Treasury, PS Accounts Payable, PS Payroll, and Corporate Maximo.  Some of AP&C’s key functions include cash accounting controls, customer remittance balancing controls, debt accounting, AP accounting controls, and Materials & Inventory accounting.  AP&C works closely with and provides accounting support and guidance to Treasury, Shared Services’ Finance Ops, Supply Chain groups and functional business unit representatives. This position supports a manager and/or departmental peers by performing accounting related activities; applying accounting standards and principles to financial transactions, policy interpretation and application; execution of business processes and associated controls.  This position also plays a key role in project and process improvement initiatives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs assignments requiring understanding and application of accounting principles, practices, and concepts (i.e. preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, computations, analysis, etc.)
  • Use of PeopleSoft technology to perform accounting duties
  • Perform and clearly communicate financial statement analysis for accounts within area of responsibility
  • Accepts ownership of business processes and associated controls.
  • Significant interface with internal and external customers, including functional business unit representatives, auditors, etc
  • Applies analytical and problem-solving skills to accounting issues.
  • Effectively communicates analytical results.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities.
  • Performs testing of controls to support Sarbanes Oxley compliance

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum education required of this position:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience required of this position:

Accountant I - II:  1 - 3 years of experience in accounting

Accountant III:  3+ years of experience in accounting

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position:

  • Utility accounting experience and working knowledge of the FERC uniform system of accounts desired
  • Working knowledge of Entergy’s financial/accounting processe
  • Technical systems-based capabilities and understanding desired.
  • Display strong analytical skills by using knowledge of tools and business processes to identify problems and resolve issues.
  • Ability to work effectively - either independently or in a team environment.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for this position:

Desired: Professional Certifications such as CPA or making progress toward CPA.
