Job description

About Sapio Sciences

Sapio Sciences is on a mission to accelerate scientific discovery and high-throughput clinical and diagnostic services. We bring together scientists, engineers, and industry specialists to build a unified lab informatics platform that helps organisations move faster, work smarter, and generate deeper insight from their data.

Artificial intelligence is central to how we innovate and operate. Within our platform, AI enhances how laboratories structure, interpret, and act on scientific data. Across our business, we apply AI thoughtfully to improve efficiency, scalability, and decision-making. It is not an add-on or future ambition. It is embedded in how we build, deliver, and continuously improve.

Our platform unifies ELN, LIMS, and scientific data management within a highly configurable environment. Scientists, laboratory professionals, and bioinformaticians rely on Sapio to manage end-to-end laboratory operations, from instrument integration and experiment setup to sample management, data analysis, and reporting. We design solutions that are powerful yet practical, enabling teams to focus on science rather than systems.

Working at Sapio

Our EMBRACE values guide how we work and grow together. We take ownership of our outcomes, collaborate openly across functions and geographies, and remain curious about how science and technology can evolve. We are accountable to each other and to our customers, and we measure our success by the real-world impact our platform enables.

Working at Sapio means being part of a lean, growth-focused team where ownership is expected and progress matters. We value colleagues who are motivated by impact and comfortable operating in an evolving environment.

At Sapio, you will work alongside people who care deeply about advancing drug discovery and improving laboratory operations worldwide. Ideas are encouraged, initiative is recognised, and professional growth is supported. As a scale-up, we move with pace and purpose, balancing innovation with responsibility.

We partner with laboratories around the world, from emerging biotech companies to global pharmaceutical and diagnostics organisations, who trust Sapio to deliver intelligent, science-aware solutions that support discovery, development, and diagnostics.

About the role

We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This is a key hire as we scale our operations across the US and UK, and you will work closely with the VP, Finance and our UK-based Staff Accountant to ensure the financial integrity of the business.

Working location

This is a fully remote role based on the East Coast of the United States. You will be expected to overlap with US business hours and collaborate regularly with colleagues in the UK. Occasional travel to our US offices (York, PA and Fort Lauderdale, FL) may be required.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Own the day-to-day accounting operations across US and UK entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses in line with US GAAP and applicable UK standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and KPI reporting packs for the VP, Finance and senior leadership.
  • Own accounts payable and receivable workflows, including invoice processing, vendor management, and cash application.
  • Support revenue recognition processes in line with ASC 606, working across the subscription and professional services components of our SaaS business model.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, and Customer Success on contract reviews, billing queries, and revenue-related matters.
  • Assist with the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors, ensuring documentation is accurate and audit-ready.
  • Monitor and maintain internal controls, identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and systems as we scale.
  • Contribute to ad hoc financial analysis, modelling, and projects as directed by the VP, Finance, including supporting board-level reporting and investor-facing materials.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA qualification or active pursuit strongly preferred.
  • Several years of demonstrable, hands-on accounting experience, ideally within a SaaS or technology business.
  • Experience working across both US and UK finance functions, with an understanding of multi-currency, multi-entity environments.
  • Demonstrable experience in a scale-up or high-growth business, with comfort operating in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with UK GAAP or IFRS is a plus.
  • Proficiency with modern accounting software (e.g. NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero) and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate output under deadline pressure.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to translate numbers into clear, actionable insight for non-finance stakeholders.
Required skills & abilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and financial integrity.
  • Metrics and data-driven mindset - comfortable building, owning, and interrogating financial dashboards and reports.
  • High degree of ownership and accountability; a self-starter who manages their own workload without close supervision.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity, adapt to change quickly, and contribute constructively in a scaling environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across geographies and functions.
  • Analytical thinker who can move between detail-level transaction review and higher-level business insight.
  • Proactive approach to process improvement - always looking for smarter, more scalable ways of working.
  • Comfortable working across time zones, with US East Coast hours as a baseline and regular UK collaboration.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to fundraising, audit, or board reporting processes is advantageous.
  • A genuine interest in the life sciences and technology space is a plus.
