What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Product Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Product Tester, you need a keen attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to follow testing protocols, often supported by basic technical proficiency and experience in quality assurance or product evaluation. Familiarity with online survey tools, bug tracking systems, and sometimes specific product testing platforms is typically required. Strong written communication, reliability, and time management skills help testers provide clear, valuable feedback and meet deadlines. These skills ensure accurate assessment of products, actionable reporting, and effective remote collaboration with development teams.

What is remote product testing?

Remote product testing is a process where individuals evaluate products from the comfort of their own homes, rather than at a company site or lab. Testers receive products, use them as instructed, and provide feedback on their experiences, which helps companies improve their offerings before they launch to the public. This setup allows companies to get diverse, real-world opinions from users in different locations. Testers may be compensated with free products, payments, or gift cards depending on the company and the test.

How does a remote product tester typically communicate feedback to the product development team?

Remote product testers usually provide feedback through structured online forms, surveys, or dedicated feedback platforms set up by the company. Depending on the organization, testers may also participate in scheduled video calls or submit detailed reports summarizing their experiences and any issues encountered. Clear, timely, and honest communication is highly valued, and testers are often encouraged to include screenshots or screen recordings to illustrate their findings. Regular communication with quality assurance specialists or product managers helps ensure that feedback leads to actionable improvements.

The Product Manager will operate within a hybrid Agile environment, ensuring that the EHR solution is successfully designed, implemented, and deployed-on time, within scope, and aligned to public sector healthcare requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Product & Technical Leadership

    • Partner with project management, business leads, and procurement to monitor vendor performance
    • Facilitate collaboration between state teams, SMEs, and implementation leads
  • EHR Implementation & Delivery
    • Lead and oversee data migration and system integrations/interfaces with external systems
    • Ensure a structured release management process, including multi-cohort go-live planning
    • Support system documentation, training materials, and organizational readiness
    • Identify and resolve technical blockers, risks, and dependencies
  • Agile Product Execution
    • Drive and refine Agile and hybrid delivery practices across teams
    • Provide technical input into backlog prioritization, sizing, and complexity assessment
    • Participate in sprint activities, retrospectives, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Strategic & Analytical Contribution
    • Research industry trends, EHR best practices, and market capabilities
    • Evaluate vendor solutions and support technology selection and module implementation decisions
    • Communicate technical debt, risks, and trade-offs clearly to executive stakeholders
Qualifications

Education and Years of Experience:

  • 8-12+ years in Product Management, Technical Product Management, or Technology Delivery
  • Experience leading EHR / EMR implementations or healthcare IT systems
  • Proven success in large-scale system implementations (public sector preferred)

    • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Leadership & Communication
    • Ability to engage executive stakeholders and cross-agency partners
    • Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills
    • Proven ability to lead without direct authority in matrixed environments

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with state Medicaid, public health, or education systems
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and health data compliance environments
  • Background in multi-organization implementations (state + vendor + local entities)
  • Certifications (nice to have):
    • Agile (Scrum, SAFe)
    • PMP or equivalent
    • Healthcare IT or interoperability-related certifications
  • Work Environment
