Job description

We are seeking a commercially minded Corporate Counsel to join our legal team in a highly visible role supporting our global Supply Chain organization-one of the most dynamic and impactful areas of our business. With more than $20B in annual transactions and a procurement function of approximately 750 employees, this role offers the opportunity to partner directly with senior leaders and drive meaningful impact across high-value commercial activities. The Corporate Counsel - Supply Chain will work closely with stakeholders across six sectors, serving as a trusted advisor on procurement and transactional matters that are critical to our operations. Although, ideally based in Indianapolis, this is a remote opportunity.

This position is ideal for someone who brings deep expertise in supply chain commercial transactions within a manufacturing or industrial environment and who is passionate about the procurement domain. You'll play a key role in delivering practical, value-added solutions to both internal and external stakeholders, helping the business manage risk while enabling speed and efficiency. At the same time, you will contribute to the evolution of our processes-moving from reactive, legacy approaches to more scalable, forward-thinking ways of working in a company that continues to grow in size and complexity. Success in this role will require strong relationship-building skills, a consultative mindset, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to supply chain and procurement leaders, delivering practical, risk-balanced guidance across purchasing, commercial transactions, and supplier relationships
  • Independently lead high-volume, complex legal matters, including contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and project support in a fast-paced environment
  • Enable business outcomes through pragmatic counsel, balancing legal risk with operational needs to drive speed, efficiency, and consistency
  • Strengthen procurement and commercial contracting practices, partnering with stakeholders to implement best practices, provide training, and increase standardization
  • Apply deep legal and commercial acumen, translating complex legal concepts into clear, actionable insights that support informed decision-making
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risk, while driving process improvements that evolve ways of working from reactive to scalable and forward-looking
  • Support the development and execution of legal strategies, aligning supply chain and commercial priorities with broader organizational goals
  • Enhance team and organizational effectiveness, mentoring junior team members, collaborating with outside counsel, and contributing to initiatives that elevate overall legal support
Cummins is an equal opportunity employer. Our policy is to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified persons without regard to race, sex, color, disability, national origin, age, religion, union affiliation, sexual orientation, veteran status, citizenship, gender identity, or other status protected by law.

Education/Experience

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution
  • Active license to practice law in home jurisdiction (in good standing)
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting Supply Chain and/or Procurement in a legal capacity
  • 5-10 years of overall legal experience, gained in-house and/or within a law firm

Compensation

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Balance and influence across stakeholders, anticipating needs, aligning priorities, and building strong, trust-based relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Communicate with clarity and impact, tailoring messaging to diverse audiences and using structured, persuasive arguments to drive understanding, alignment, and action
  • Make sound, timely decisions in complex environments, synthesizing large volumes of information, navigating ambiguity, and maintaining forward momentum for the business
  • Apply strong legal and commercial acumen, providing practical, risk-balanced guidance that reflects both deep legal expertise and an understanding of business strategy and operations
  • Navigate complexity, conflict, and change with professionalism, addressing challenges directly, adapting in real time, and resolving issues in a way that minimizes disruption and maintains progress
  • Operate with urgency and ownership, taking on new opportunities and complex challenges with energy and accountability, while maintaining focus on high-quality outcomes
  • Drive execution and continuous improvement, leveraging disciplined project, issue, and risk management while proactively identifying opportunities to enhance processes, scalability, and long-term effectiveness
