Job description

We're looking for a Jr. AI Process Engineer to work cross-functionally with Operations, Logistics, Finance, Customer Experience, and Merchandising teams to identify and build automations that streamline back-of-house business processes. You'll pair a software engineering foundation with practical AI/LLM tooling to eliminate manual work, reduce errors, and improve the speed of day-to-day operations. You'll work with the existing software engineering team, providing code review, architectural guidance, and mentorship.

This is a technical, hands-on role. You'll spend your time gathering requirements, mapping systems, writing code, building API integrations, deploying workflow automations, and experimenting with AI tooling - not managing people or writing strategy decks. The ideal candidate is someone who gets energy from seeing a clunky manual process and turning it into something that runs reliably on its own. In this position, you will report to our Engineering Manager.

This role is based out of our headquarters in Austin, TX; relocation support will be provided to a remote hire.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with our VP of Technology, Operations, Logistics, Finance, CX, and Merchandising teams to identify high-impact automation opportunities
  • Design and build workflow automations using APIs and orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, n8n, or similar)
  • Develop and deploy practical AI/LLM-powered tools for tasks like document processing, classification, content generation, and data extraction
  • Enhance integrations between internal systems with generative AI tooling
  • Write clean, maintainable code with appropriate testing and monitoring
  • Measure and report on the impact of automations (time saved, error reduction, cost savings)
  • Stay current on AI tooling and evaluate new tools for practical business applications

Requirements

  • Comfortable with modern software development tools and practices:ย  git, version control, reading documentation, testing your own work,ย  and able to write code in at least one general-purpose programming language. We don't care which one, though Python, TypeScript, Ruby, or Rust are all great fits for this work
  • Hands-on use of modern AI/LLM tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar) to solve real problems. Academic, personal, or professional projects all count. We care that you've actually shipped something with them
  • Self-directed: able to take a vague problem, ask the right questions, scope it down, and drive it to a working solution without daily hand-holding. This is the single most important trait for the role
  • Strong written and verbal communication. Comfortable interviewing non-technical teammates across operations, logistics, finance, CS, and merchandising to understand their workflows and translate what they say into a scoped, practical solution
  • Builder mentality, and gets energy from shipping something that works over designing in the abstract. Willing to pick the simplest tool that solves the problem and iterate from there
  • E-commerce, retail, or operations exposure is a plus but not required

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision benefits
  • 401(k) and employer match
  • Annual Huckberry shopping credits
  • Paid Sabbatical leave at 4 years
  • Summer Fridays
  • Weekly catered lunch
  • Monthly happy hours
  • Mental health resources
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Paid Vacation & Paid Sick Leave
  • Volunteer Time Off
  • Generous employee discount
  • WFH flexibility
  • Annual offsites
