Remote Precision Machining information

What is remote precision machining?

Remote precision machining refers to the operation and management of machining processes, such as milling, turning, or drilling, from a remote location using advanced software and internet-connected machines. Operators can monitor, control, and adjust CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines without being physically present in the workshop. This approach improves flexibility, increases safety, and allows for real-time problem-solving and quality assurance. Remote precision machining is becoming more common with advancements in automation and industrial IoT (Internet of Things) technology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote precision machining specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Precision Machining Specialist, you need strong technical skills in machining processes, blueprint reading, and material properties, typically supported by vocational training or a relevant technical degree. Familiarity with CNC programming software, CAD/CAM systems, and remote monitoring tools is essential for efficient operation and troubleshooting. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication are vital soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure high-quality, precise manufacturing outcomes and effective collaboration in a remote or distributed work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote precision machining roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote precision machining professionals often face challenges related to communication, maintaining quality standards, and troubleshooting equipment from a distance. Working remotely requires clear and proactive communication with on-site teams to ensure specifications are met and any issues are promptly addressed. Utilizing robust collaboration tools, regularly reviewing project requirements, and participating in virtual quality checks can help mitigate these challenges. Staying updated with digital machining software and remote monitoring technologies is also crucial for maintaining productivity and accuracy.

What is the difference between Remote Precision Machining vs Remote CNC Machining?

AspectRemote Precision MachiningRemote CNC Machining
CertificationsOften requires certifications in precision manufacturing and machiningTypically requires CNC programming and operation certifications
Work EnvironmentPrecision-focused, detailed work often involving complex partsMachine operation and programming, often involving CNC machines
Industry UsageUsed in aerospace, medical devices, and high-precision industriesCommon in manufacturing, automotive, and industrial sectors

Remote Precision Machining and Remote CNC Machining share overlapping skills in machining and certifications. However, precision machining emphasizes high-accuracy, detailed work on complex parts, often in specialized industries. CNC machining focuses more on programming and operating CNC machines for a variety of manufacturing tasks. Both roles are vital in modern manufacturing, with distinctions mainly in scope and specialization.

Headquartered in Durango, Colorado, with expanding operations in and Tulsa, Oklahoma, and upcoming growth in Seattle, Washington, Agile has achieved more than 40% year-over-year growth for the past three years, and our momentum continues to accelerate.

At Agile, we design, build, and test in-space propulsion systems that give spacecraft the ability to maneuver with precision, reliability, and purpose. Our technologies play a critical role in missions that range from lunar landings and resource utilization to national defense, human exploration, and commercial space transport.

We are seeking bold and driven individuals who thrive in a hands-on, fast-moving environment and want to help write the next chapter of space history as part of a close-knit, innovative team. • Lead supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management to ensure competitive and sustainable supply solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and program management to align sourcing decisions with technical requirements and production schedules.
  • Drive supplier performance management, including scorecards, business reviews, and corrective action plans.
  • Identify and mitigate category risks related to capacity, single-source dependencies, quality, and long lead materials.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support new product introduction, design-for-manufacturability, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Forecast and manage category demand in alignment with program milestones and inventory strategies.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience and operational efficiency.
  • Support executive reporting with category insights, market intelligence, and strategic recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of supply chain, sourcing, or category management experience.
  • Proven experience managing complex supplier relationships and negotiating high-value agreements.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated hardware environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace propulsion, precision machining, metallurgy, or high-reliability hardware supply chains.
  • Familiarity with supply chain tools and systems such as ERP/MRP platforms, cost modeling, or supplier performance tools.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, growth-stage, or hardware startup environments.
  • Exposure to government contracting requirements (DoD, NASA).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret category data and market trends.

The expected salary range: $72,000-$90,000 annually
